Matheson came from the premiership and has nearly 50 league appearances in his career. £500 a week…at wolves more like 20 times that.

Price and value aren't the same fcking thing and he certainly didn't make any of those appearances for Wolves. Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
I’m not claiming he did. But we signed a lad who already has played first team football at this level. Said he was ‘hybrid’ B team and first team. Didn’t play him. Spent a year here. Now we are sending him out on loan for a second year. It’s not like an 18 year old kid where clearly that experience matters. If he’s not getting a chance now, when will he, and if he’s not good enough now what was the point?Worthy4England wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2024 7:58 pmPrice and value aren't the same fcking thing and he certainly didn't make any of those appearances for Wolves. You were claiming that Sam had a production line similar to Matheson.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2024 8:04 pmI’m not claiming he did. Playing a few games for Rochdale doesn't necessarily make him a racing cert for us.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Looks like we should have some movement on transfers next week, so that's positive.
Khumbeni, Matheson and Conway are all ready to play first team football - just not for us. They should all be looking to play 30+ games in League Two.
They might make decent squad players at this level, but we have squad players. We need players who are elite at this level. So they need to go on loan.
The players we sign need to be the best players at the club.

Matheson is literally the only one in that box. And sometimes it doesn't work out. He seems a good kid but he's got obvious limitations. Wolves or not he's on a negligible wage here.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
The amount we're putting into Matheson is tiny and his loan club will be paying his wages. If we get a squad player out of him that's great, if we get a sell-on fee (or some cash) in the future that's positive. I don't see why anyone would moan.
We will send these guys out on loan and bring through more lads to play in the Bs. It's exactly how a production line is supposed to work. Not just putting players directly into the first 11, but generating players who can go on to be pros at different levels and earn us money over time. Elite prospects, squad depth, fees and sell-ons...you need to maximise them all.
If Max impresses on loan there's every chance he could replace Randell in the squad next season. Speaking to people at the game today they've been really impressed with his improvement over the last year. He's in a similar position to Thomason when Evatt first arrived, but we're at a higher level now. If not, he is well placed to get a League Two club and earn us a bit of money in the future.
Everything about this is a sure sign that the B Team project is working and moving our production of young players forward. There's a clear pathway for the players in the youth system now and players like Thomason and Conway will encourage them. Thommo is now a key player for us having been developed by this coaching team. Conway is right on the edge of breaking into the squad, having gone through the B Team and loans system.
It's far from a fully fledged development system, but it's a much brighter situation than we have had. It will continue to improve.

Perhaps it’s an uncontrollable compulsion?GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 2:18 amThe amount we're putting into Matheson is tiny and his loan club will be paying his wages. There are things to complain and worry about. Loaning out young players to develop them is nowhere near the top of the list. But we are in the situation where some are so discontented they will shriek about everything, from the colour of the third shirt to the vendors in the fan zone. Not all complaints are equally valid but they all add to the howling maelstrom of waaaaaaaah.
It won’t go away till we are top-two, and even then some will still parp a solitary bugle, because it’s a compulsion. Might as well ask a dog why it barks.
Anyway Ghost - lovely to see you back.

We are still by my reckoning at minimum two top quality wing backs short. One on each side. Arguably more but I think one for each side is absolute bare minimum. Hoping these players we have bids for are proper specialist wing backs. We have to learn that you can’t make do and mend here. It’s a specialist position that needs serious quality in.

I haven't got a name, but according to some rumours I've heard we are possibly getting a LWB on loan from a top premiership club (an U21) but not sure when or how true - other rumours doing the rounds (including some from Luton) is that McAtee had a medical yesterday and is close to signing.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 10:35 amWe are still by my reckoning at minimum two top quality wing backs short. Only rumours.

Nothing concrete but yeah, I did see something the other day about a very highly-rated LWB set to be sent on loan from a top club. It didn't mention us but I thought, aye-aye.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 10:46 amI haven't got a name, but according to some rumours I've heard we are possibly getting a LWB on loan from a top premiership club (an U21) but not sure when or how true

Luke Chambers is being strongly linked with Wigan, so could have been him.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 11:08 amNothing concrete but yeah, I did see something the other day about a very highly-rated LWB set to be sent on loan from a top club. Our interest in Calum Scanlon is perhaps ambitious, given his involvement with the first team last season. However, there was a young man in the west lower last night who looked very Calum Scanlony...so maybe not.

I think it was Jayden Meghoma I was pondering. But that looks unlikely - he's in the last year of his contract.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 4:48 pmLuke Chambers is being strongly linked with Wigan, so could have been him.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 11:08 amNothing concrete but yeah, I did see something the other day about a very highly-rated LWB set to be sent on loan from a top club. Well, we have the chant all ready and waiting for him.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 5:06 pmI think it was Jayden Meghoma I was pondering. But that looks unlikely - he's in the last year of his contract.
I like Jayden. Thought he was unlucky not to get more out of Spurs, but he didn't kick on physically as much as they wanted and he's not an elite technical player so it is what it is. No idea how he's been getting on at Saints. He's apparently a bright lad and works hard, so I'd be fine with it if they've decided he's the answer down the left. Not sure I'd have hand-picked him, having said that.
It's certainly interesting that we've (basically) publicly announced all our targets except the LWB.

Player I heard was a young Chelsea lad.
Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
They look to have quite a lot of candidates in their academy. Ishé Samuels Smith a Manchester lad, so perhaps a likely one.

Last Chelsea lad we were credited with interest in was Zak Sturge. His loan a Posh didn't amount to much. Not heard anything since.

Some nattering north of the border that Armstrong would cost himself an international call-up if he moved here.
Hopefully that doesn't impact anything.

Bit parochial. It’s England, not Darien.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 10:04 pmSome nattering north of the border that Armstrong would cost himself an international call-up if he moved here.
