Might well be. think Iles said on the podcast earlier that Wrexham have offered him significantly more wages than we can.....
If so, and he goes there purely based on wages (and maybe the chance to be in the next Deadpool movie....), then they're welcome to him.....

If someone with no affiliation or history to either club is offered more money to go to Wrexham why wouldn’t they?dave the minion wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 2:21 pmMight well be. think Iles said on the podcast earlier that Wrexham have offered him significantly more wages than we can.....

I don’t understand this. I could see the argument if say it was a championship club where they were being offered silly money to be a bit part. Better for their career to play at Bolton.
But all things equal your choice is Wrexham in league one on more money or Bolton in league one on less money? I can’t think of a good reason to pick us unless you are a fan.
Wrexham on the up a very reasonable chance of making the premiership in the next 10 seasons if their owners stay. A real buzz. Get to do media work which helps set you up for after the game.
I mean same for other clubs too. If someone like Birmingham offered a player more than we did and you were going to get games there…why wouldn’t you?

Were we ever really interested?BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 1:59 pmWrexham fans seem to think Mcatee is going there…they seem to think Evatt’s BN quote today where he’s complaining about players being more interested in money is linked to that…,,
Doubt we'd be that interested to go above and beyond to sign him given the plethora of forwards we've already got.
In other news, Schon has Already been done:

Well, I suspect to most people (aside from a large chunk of our fans) we would be the most likely to be promoted quicker, so you'd come to us for the prospect of playing in the Championship sooner, plus being part of our potential revival and - not that everyone agrees - we probably offer a more attractive, technical style of football that some players may be more likely to thrive in than at other teams.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 2:29 pmIf someone with no affiliation or history to either club is offered more money to go to Wrexham why wouldn’t they?dave the minion wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 2:21 pmMight well be. think Iles said on the podcast earlier that Wrexham have offered him significantly more wages than we can.....

Maybe but Wrexham as it stands likely to be able to go beyond where we can. It’s time only in our favour right now - arguably. The Wrexham story has captured imaginations and I can imagine lots are keen to go there partly because of the money but partly because it’s a great story.dave the minion wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 3:12 pmWell, I suspect to most people (aside from a large chunk of our fans) we would be the most likely to be promoted quicker, so you'd come to us for the prospect of playing in the Championship sooner, plus being part of our potential revival and - not that everyone agrees - we probably offer a more attractive, technical style of football that some players may be more likely to thrive in than at other teams.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 2:29 pmIf someone with no affiliation or history to either club is offered more money to go to Wrexham why wouldn’t they?dave the minion wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 2:21 pmMight well be. think Iles said on the podcast earlier that Wrexham have offered him significantly more wages than we can.....

But say Birmingham. Most have them as favourites above us - and if they offered more why would someone choose us?
As for the style - maybe that’s true but he’s been at Barnsley so I can’t imagine he’s overly fussed.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
All of which are fair points!
The issue with Wrexham is players may opt to join them for purely non-football reasons, which is kind of why my thoughts are they are welcome to that kind of player if thats what they decide.
Of course, we're all mercenary to a degree and will always try to maximise our earnings, but v quite a few (not all ) of our rivals I'd say we've got the strongest purely football attraction (although that counts for very little if we pay peanuts...)

I don’t think there is a footballing reason to come here or any league one side over Wrexham if the money is better. Mullin dropped out of the league to go there and I suspect has had the best years of his career there.dave the minion wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 3:55 pmAll of which are fair points!

I think it’s just unrealistic to think Bolton Wanderers will be more attractive than Wrexham or Birmingham or a few others to override a salary differential.
We would over a number of league one clubs but this year always looked tough to me with Huddersfield, Rotherham et al…

In the unlikely event that Cambridge United could offer more money than Bolton, we'd lose out there too. At this level, it's money first and foremost. Support your family and earn as much as you can in the short time available to you

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
I'm still completely baffled by the releasing of our interest in Dembele & McAtee weeks ago, yet there has been absolutely zero progress with either (that we are aware of).
Surely the club only release this information if we have had an offer accepted & an indication that the player is interested in joining.
Or was this complete and utter bullshit from either the club or Iles ?

We’d have competed with a league two team able to offer more money last year but not when they are in the same division. Fair feck* as well - your next contract might be your last.

Good to get arguably the position we needed to strengthen the most sorted. Well done Chris and Ian, thanks to Fv!

Yes this looks to be a really good signing, from the you tube vids he looks quick and quite direct - which is exactly what we need.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 4:51 pmGood to get arguably the position we needed to strengthen the most sorted. Well done Chris and Ian, thanks to Fv!
He certainly doesn't look suited to a slow build, 'to me to you' pass sideways for 5 minutes type possession football, so hopefully its a sign of a more quicker tempo, slightly more direct (not long ball, more get up the pitch faster) type of football ?

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
We've signed a talented player who was apparently offered more money to go play in America and had an offer from a club that was in the Bundesliga last season. We got Baxter in despite him being offered 20k a week elsewhere.
Players don't always take the money, so we'll see how we do elsewhere.
If McAtee goes somewhere else then we move on. It's the nature of the beast. I'd like him in, but I think Armstrong is the real game-changer for us.

From watching games I'd guess that one reason we've targeted him is because his club played a very similar style of football to us. Patient build up from the back.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 4:58 pmYes this looks to be a really good signing, from the you tube vids he looks quick and quite direct - which is exactly what we need.

I've not seen him shove it up the pitch much and he will pass backwards when it's the best option.
He's not afraid to go forwards when its on, though, and he will take defenders on to create openings. He's also not afraid of mistakes. When he makes them he just goes again.
Looks the right sort.

Pretty much. He says it himself here at the start of this interview: https://www.fcdallas.com/video/one-on-o ... 5053556001
