Aye, by my reckoning (squad details updated here) Schön makes 21 – assuming we don't count Carty, Hutchinson, Matheson and Khumbeni, who are all now overage, which is one strong reason they're being loaned out...GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 4:48 pmHave they changed the registration rules for this season?
If not we are too close to the cap to be picking up overage projects. If we leave out Matheson and Khumbeni we're at 20 of 22.
So if McAtee were to sign for us - after all, last time I looked we were a massive club who shouldn't be in this division etc and so on, unless that shibboleth doesn't fit the current argument - that would leave no place for a new RWB (Armstrong?) without someone leaving or remaining unregistered. I guess there's a possibility we might not register Mendes Gomes, but that would be a big judgement call on last summer's marquee signing... (with all due respect to Baxter)

This is where we currently stand. I think Southwood's shirt number should be 20, but other than that I think that's the two 11s minus CMG. So 21 players.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
The obvious gaps in the squad are RWB and #10. Ideally 2 #10s.
We lack a left-footed set piece specialist and someone who can carry the ball through the middle.
Nlundulu, Arfield and Jones look like utility players in attack, midfield and defence. We have Coleman as 3rd keeper.
That is a proper squad, if we can make he remaining additions.

That is indeed a proper squad - nice to see it laid out like that.
Testament to how far we've come that I wouldn't be entirely unhappy if we had to field the "2nd" XI as is in some games

Noises from Hungary suggest £800,000 - but I don't know how trustworthy those noises are, and it might be one of those structured deals, so that could be the minimum or maximum payment (have definitely heard there's a promotion payment).dave the minion wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 9:46 amApols if ive missed it, but do we know the fee for Schon - was he one of the 1m+ offers??
I mentioned above that we're running short on squad space, but I somehow forgot that we could loan in Big Club Kids who wouldn't count against the numbers. Still doesn't mean we could hire both an overage #10 and RWB without losing someone somewhere (eg deregister CMG till January), but gives us an option in the 'other' position.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 1:11 amThe obvious gaps in the squad are RWB and #10. Was Schon one of those that was identified by Ludonautics? Anyone know?

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
I think we are still a fair ways short in quality
- if I’m being honest. If we are playing a front three the only ones I as yet have confidence in are Charles, Collins and Adeboyejo in the roles but that still leaves a gap.
I don’t think Dan or Scott Arfield are the answer as 10’s and Lolos so far in pre season has me more scratching my head than thinking he’s the answer.
Schon if he is as good and able as we hope might offer the answer down the left. The right still needs a top class wing back.
I don’t have huge faith in either of the midfields - in fact I think both are decidedly lightweight and will be found out against the better sides.
Probably have reasonable back three’s and keepers now which I think are areas we can relax on.
Hope I’m wrong - I can’t see this getting the >2ppg we must demand.

Yeah. It could be read either way. Maybe we started scouting o'er yonder before Ludo came on board, but it'd be daft to not run the numbers on potential targets.sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 6:01 pmI knew their name was mentioned but like I said I couldn't remember in what context.

Either way he seems like a prospect. Be nice to see if any of our regulars were at todays game to give a first hand perspective.

He’s 24 next month, so hardly a prospect. He needs to be able to deliver immediately at that age, especially if we’ve invested heavily in him.sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 7:44 pmEither way he seems like a prospect. I was there today, and he looked bloody good. Lots of energy, very direct going forward. Gave ball away a couple of times with misplaced passes, but he did only sign yesterday I suppose.
Think we might have stumbled upon a very good signing indeed

Evatt suggested inspite of his height he’s very physical and decent in the air. Full Hungary international and they aren’t bad so must have something. Certainly sounds like the sort we have lacked.dave the minion wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 8:06 pmI was there today, and he looked bloody good. Lots of energy, very direct going forward.
