I wonder if he was the trialist that played the other night?

...of which Thomo is now arguably the least replaceable.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 1:07 pmWe have to expect that a team might get desperate late in the window and come in for Charles, Thommo or Vic.

He's also "Mr Bolton Wanderers" and "Future captain", so you'd imagine they'll be upset if they lose him.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 1:36 pm...of which Thomo is now arguably the least replaceable.
Thommo was one of the ones listed when I was talking to one the of the staff about lads who could get us out of the Championship in the future.

Didn't we fend off Brizzle City for Thommo about this time last year? I'd like to think we can keep him.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 1:43 pmHe's also "Mr Bolton Wanderers" and "Future captain", so you'd imagine they'll be upset if they lose him.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 1:36 pm...of which Thomo is now arguably the least replaceable.

We are seriously protected now. He has 3 years left on his deal.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 4:11 pmDidn't we fend off Brizzle City for Thommo about this time last year? I'd like to think we can keep him.
He's one of the best prospects in League One.
That's big money.
Here's hoping Conway is the next in that mould.

Ha! On a 3 year deal now so we can say no and he’s not the type who will force a move. Can set his own ceiling - hopefully he marries aggression and doing it by being disciplined (copyright Colin) this season.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
In terms of the U21 players we need to sign for the squad to work, Alex Lowry has been told to find a new club by Rangers.
Really talented lad. Technical playmaker. Not the quickest or strongest, but has the frame to develop. U21 for this season.
Not sure he fits in terms of who else we are looking at, but I do think Evatt could really make something out of him.
I'd like us to be one of the clubs who asked about him in recent days.

Darragh MacAnthony being his usual classless self and outing our business, or seemingly so. Having already said on the radio that we've been after Randall, he's now said an unnamed club bid £2m last week - but Randall signed a new deal after the bid was rejected.
So, assuming he's not talking out of his hat, the scene is set. That's the kind of money we have to play with for the right player.

Sounds like you might be putting 2 and 2 together to get 5 there.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 7:31 pmDarragh MacAnthony being his usual classless self and outing our business, or seemingly so. Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
MacAnthony's always talking out of something, but I've never heard it called a hat before.
Anyways, different clubs will have different valuations for different players. Entirely possible we bid £1m, they said no, somebody else bid £2m, they still said no and he signed a deal. Also possible Darragh's talking arse-gravy.
It's also possible we think Armstrong is worth say £750k but Kilmarnock want £1.2m. Or that we think McAtee is worth, I dunno, £7,500 a week but his agent knows Wrexham are paying some players £12,000. And player wages are potentially much more destabilising to squad morale than transfer fees.
Prices are elastic depending on what people will pay. Us signing Horsey-Tutu might mean we're moving down our list of targets, which is obviously sub-optimal but there are some things you can't control. You have to have your ceiling price for any given player, and if clubs won't sell for it or players won't sign for it, you have to decide whether you're wrong enough to change your other plans down the line.

I think that's what is happening in a couple of cases, yes.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 9:52 pmUs signing Horsey-Tutu might mean we're moving down our list of targets
Tutu looks more like the free transfers we signed than he does like the lads we've looked to spend fees on.

Pete O’Rourke reporting that Plymouth are tracking Vic. What would we be happy selling him for - £1.5m?

More, in the current market.
2 years on his deal and a player our fans massively underrate; but who Evatt loves.
We absolutely will not want to sell him, so any team that wants him will be paying a premium.

Well that’s an interesting signing out of the blue to say the least. Jay Matete. Exact sort we needed in midfield.

Matete, if we can keep him fit, solves a lot of issues.
