Can’t see us paying big bucks for this lad unless we’re also selling Vic.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2024 1:36 pmThink this is the account that broke the Schön news (and possibly Horsey-Tutu)

I read on X that Vic may be off for "less than half a Million", are we really going to take a loss on him and then spend double it on a guy with a shady goalscoring record on McAtee?

That was never officially announced but it's reported he had a half-mill release clause at Burton

"I read on X" is a hell of a qualifier these days Borisboltonboris wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2024 1:55 pmI read on X that Vic may be off for "less than half a Million", are we really going to take a loss on him and then spend double it on a guy with a shady goalscoring record on McAtee?

Whatever the fee, I would ask whether we should lose a 9 given Dion's fitness-and-form history. Not sure if McAtee's a 9, but Collins isn't. Lolos maybe but that would be a risk on his development.
It has been noted that in Jerome and Vic we got rid of two types we could 'target' if necessary. Not sure we've even really thought about replacing that aspect - unless Lolos can do it.
None of which is to say we shouldn't sign McAtee, but I wouldn't be delighted to lose Vic IF (and it's a big 'un) that's part of the plan.

£450k was what Wigan were told they had to bid to trigger it. They couldn't find the cash.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2024 2:00 pmThat was never officially announced but it's reported he had a half-mill release clause at Burton

We activated his release clause which was, depending on who you believe, anywhere between 500-800k

Whenever I've seen McAtee i've just thought "he's not for us, him" - He's best pals with my in-laws next door neighbour though, so I may be able to fangirl him at some point

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Last season McAtee made 41 key passes - passes creating a shot, if not a goal. that's one fewer than Corey Blackett-Taylor, seven more than Aaron Collins. There were players who made more key passes - like the much-maligned Sheehan (50) - but I'm not sure if McAtee was on set pieces, and he also scored 12 goals. 12 goals and 41 potential assists is not a bad return for a team who were, to say the least, erratic.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Yeah he had a good season. What about prior to that? My issue is that when I’ve watched him I’ve not been over impressed but also he’s 25 and again it’s one season we’d have to get excited over. Albeit his last one and only one this high in the pyramid. But many players have a good season and can’t repeat it.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2024 3:18 pmLast season McAtee made 41 key passes - passes creating a shot, if not a goal. that's one fewer than Corey Blackett-Taylor, seven more than Aaron Collins. Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
He's not has a bad season in 3 years and he's improved consistently.
He was PotY for Grimsby and ran the play-offs for them to get them promoted. Then he got injured when loaned back the next season, but was their best player once he was fit. Then he went to Barnsley and was their best player.

Noises are we are about to sign McAtee.
If Vic’s not off, someone else definitely will be.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
If McAtee joins us then IMO he will be a significant upgrade on Bodvarsson & Jerome, I think that he will add some much needed physicality as he looks quite strong and seems to have an edge to him. I may be wrong but isn't he quite flexible in that he can play in a variety of positions up front ?
Local lad as well I think.

Last season was his first season as more of a striker. Previously he'd been an attacking midfielder.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2024 3:59 pmI may be wrong but isn't he quite flexible in that he can play in a variety of positions up front?
He can play any of our 3 attacking positions, but he'll be best as a #10 and not a main striker.

"both wings", "pace", "1-on-1 dribbling"...all the things we needed. Now it's up to him to prove he can stay fit and hit his levels.

Matete, Osei-Tutu and possibly McAtee ? even I'm getting a little excited.
All three will improve us significantly, for me it's a case of getting Evatt to start them as they are all good enough to start games for me. I'll doff my cap to FV and Evatt / Markham.
