Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
I feel we’ve probably signed the right sort of players in the right positions. We’ve been crying out for wing backs and got them. Crying out for someone else in midfield who can do the running and work and got one.
We needed another big centre half and got one. It’s about making it work now. This league comes down to one thing - consistency of results. My guess is the teams that go up are the ones that can win when not playing well and don’t need to play that well to win. That’s the test. Squad looks strong.

What's the maximum squad size again?

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
I know we have "options" rather than a first and second 11...but our prospective second 11 looks like a strong play-off side.
This will be a long, hard season. There will be peaks and troughs. As with Pompey and Derby last season, there will be times when people get nervous.
We're giving ourselves a chance, though.
Also means we can put out proper teams in all comps. As befits a team with our pedigree.

Unless the league have matched it to the Championship's 25, it's still 22 outfield players over the age of 21 (dated to the first day of the calendar year).
I am half expecting to be told it's gone up to 25, because the club seems completely unconcerned by the cap.

The squad should McAtee join would be a top 2 squad, more athleticism, more pace and also some steel that some of us have been crying out for.

Cant see us keepng Dan and letting Ade go. Ade is a proper no. 9 and scores goals. Dan is a negative on both counts.

I’ve lost track. By how many will we be over when McAtee signs?GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2024 4:33 pmUnless the league have matched it to the Championship's 25, it's still 22 outfield players over the age of 21 (dated to the first day of the calendar year).

If we are to believe the league is stronger then there are going to be more occasions where teams get results from other teams at the top. If a team is consistent then they are likely to run away with it. Hope that can be us.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2024 4:32 pmI know we have "options" rather than a first and second 11...but our prospective second 11 looks like a strong play-off side.

Seems like the club know what's missing and they're trying to sort it.
I don't know how they do it but I wasn't going to bother much this season after "the day that shall not be named" however there is a spark, I'm signed up for Wanderers TV and I have the face paint on standby.
There will be cheering, annoyance and the usual 90 minutes of "why" but COYWM.

Well what a day this is turning out to be. If we sign McAtee as expected would we expect anyone else to come in? Or would it be a case of business well and truly done?

Mcatee is the one more isn’t he?GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2024 4:43 pmWe'll have 24 for 22 places, but it may be that we don't register CMG until January due to injury. So it may be 23. However, we are apparently after one more after "McAthree" happens later.
Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
I'm thinking there's a few outs, I really think that we might see a bigger name leave. If it's Vic then I'm going to be a bit miffed as he's a really good player who has that strength we sometimes need up top. Dan is yet to realise he has this too. I'm worry he'll realise when it's too late for him.sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2024 4:40 pmWell what a day this is turning out to be. No. We wanted 2 #10s, a RWB and a #6.
We've signed Matete #6, Tutu RWB and McAtee #10.
Unless they envisage Matete as a high-pressure #10 it leaves us short of Paris' replacement.

My guess would be that either we know Vic is going and/or we’re planning to loan out one of Dan and Morley.

I honestly don't know, but if Vic does go we will want a replacement.
Giving Dan the #11 shirt was an intentional statement by Evatt to back him, so would be a switch.
Morley is usually fit and available in a midfield full of crocks.
It'll be a tough call, whatever happens.

Bolton news article after JOT signs has a quote from Evatt saying ‘we’ve got one more think then we reassess’ before talking about outgoings for players who won’t get game time.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2024 4:48 pmNo. We wanted 2 #10s, a RWB and a #6.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Left-field possibility, we don't register Arfield for the league and he plays the cups. Would be very weird, but also fit his supposed role.
That being said I had expected him to start at Orient, so I'm merely trying to figure out how it could work.
If you don't register Arfield and CMG the squad works out of the box.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Obviously there’s also the possibility of other players being close to moves. Charles and Sheehan are perhaps the two most obvious candidates.

There were no bids in as of a few days ago, but anything can happen as the window winds down and it can happen quickly.
Some players may now want to go, given the depth in the squad.
