I feel like you just insulted my mother in Swahili.

Could be 4x5 and that he's twice as good as a number 10...dave the minion wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 12:41 pmIs that 45 as in 4+5 = 9 - a hint at where he thinks he will/should be playing for us?

Maybe his brother is the u21 #10 we’ve been looking for, eh Ghost?

Ha, if nothing else he's overage.
James has a similar decision to make to the one Palmer had last season. City want him to stay, but won't make him guarantees.
Can't say I know first hand, but I think he's inclined to stay there.
We don't seem to be as fussed about age of incomings as I expected, which would suggest folk are leaving.
The Vic rumour seemed to be sourced, but no idea if he's one we're expecting to go.

Some transfer window this has been done. Started off slowly, but the last few days have been overwhelmingly positive and my optimism and excitement for the new season has finally returned after the disappointment of the playoff final loss. This really is it now, we either get promoted this season or we start the next with a new manager.
In other news, I'm hearing Max Conway is off on loan to Crewe, their depth at LB/LWB is almost non-existent so he's got a good chance to earn some decent playing time.

Sounds like some really decent transfer business has been done this season. Hopefully we've sorted it out in such a way that hasn't got the new players coming in playing catchup for our style of play.
Even the surprising signings such as Lolos sound like they've got decent pedigree.
Seems like we're top heavy in terms of squad so hopefully we'll be able to leverage them in other positions.

As Brommers said, Max has gone to Crewe. Very good move.

3 year deal. A 3 year deal. Not a loan? A 3 year deal. Wrexham must be seething.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
I can't help but feel McAtee's "BTEC Thomas Muller" style of play will suit us much better than it suited Barnsley.
They valued his work rate and ability to see and execute unusual finishes/passes, but they didn't really utilise his use of space.
At Oakwell in the first leg he was consistently stood in about 10 yards of space, but they were so obsessed with getting the ball out wide to cross that they never passed to him.
At our place he drifted off the back post into about 5 yards and chipped the ball in for a simple headed finish from Cosgrove, but he could have hurt us far more if given the ball when he was on the half turn in acres.
There aren't many players outside the top flight who have that level of spatial awareness. It'll be interesting to see what goes on.

Reading some Barnsley views on Mcatee and they are very mixed to say the least. Misses sitters. But works very hard. Has too many off games. Neither a striker nor a number 10.
Interesting to see where we play him. Seems one of those in between types.

I think when you look at the numbers he got for Barnsley last season he should do better for us - and that will be plenty good enough. It’s up to Evatt now, he has the tools for the job.

20 combined goals and assists in a season where he may have underperformed will do fine, yeah.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 7:44 pmI think when you look at the numbers he got for Barnsley last season he should do better for us - and that will be plenty good enough. He didn't suit Barnsley's style of play and he still made things happen.

Sounds perfect for our system of 2 behind 1 as one of the 2.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 6:58 pmReading some Barnsley views on Mcatee and they are very mixed to say the least. Misses sitters. But works very hard. Has too many off games. Neither a striker nor a number 10.

Not that we were still after him but according to the Daily Record, Queens Park Rangers have agreed a deal to sign Brest's former Celtic (and Blackpool) winger Karamoko Dembele.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Yeah, it looks like a bidding war developed with Dembele and we got left behind a while ago. At the end of the season the price was supposedly sub £1m, the reports now are around £3m.
So, piecing things together, we've worked our way through both our top targets for the role and a couple of the ones lower down.
Stuff around McCowan is currently murky.
When you're casting around for "the type" - decent age, ball carrier, goals in him, room to improve, in the last year of contract - it's slim pickings.
Rayan Phillipe is the one that springs to mind immediately.
I suppose the question is, would we be okay going "as is" if we couldn't find the right player?
