Patino has joined Deportivo La Coruna on a permanent deal.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 10:42 amWe got knocked back by Charlie Patino's reps earlier in the summer. We've wanted him on loan the past two summers.
With Evatt coming out and saying we're waiting for "out of reach" targets who "want to play higher" to change their minds, I wonder...
Dream the impossible dream and all that.
Two poorish loans in the Championship. Might be the merest chance.

Yeah, I saw that. Hard to argue with his decision to tell us where to go. Good move for him.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 8:26 pmPatino has joined Deportivo La Coruna on a permanent deal.
Dembele went to QPR, Patino to Depor...can't argue with the ambition, but these are so hard to get done.
McAtee we fought off Wrexham for. Much more our current level.

Aye. Intrigued and to be honest a little bit nervous about which hat-rabbits might appear before Friday - yes, Friday 11pm. 98 hours...GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 8:38 pmYeah, I saw that. It's a bit like me having a fax in my pocket. We've spotted someone good, oh, he's gone to Bayern (random team insert) for 900k and 15 grand a week..

If every player we want is "wanted" by bigger clubs, and they're just waiting to see if they pull the trigger, then it's really out of your hands.

Apropos of nowt I saw a story on that lad who was on loan at Charlton 2 seasons back, Raki something from Palace. Palace are apparently asking £2m to loan him out this time and the player asking any loan club to up his current wages by around 700%.

I mighta wanted to shag Sam Fox in the 80's (I didn't want to, but you get the drift). Funnily enough, it was really outta my hands...GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 10:03 pmAlmost exactly, yes.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 9:32 pmIt's a bit like me having a fax in my pocket. I have pretty big hands and I think a lot of Sam Fox would have spilled out of even them.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 10:28 pmI mighta wanted to shag Sam Fox in the 80's (I didn't want to, but you get the drift). Funnily enough, it was really outta my hands...

Aye, I'm reckoning you didn't shag her in the 80's either!GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 10:30 pmI have pretty big hands and I think a lot of Sam Fox would have spilled out of even them.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 10:28 pmI mighta wanted to shag Sam Fox in the 80's (I didn't want to, but you get the drift). Celtic got a wad of cash burning a hole now too. Not holding my breath on that one.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 6:19 pmThat's him.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 3:23 pmThis be the fella we were linked with and Evatt admitted we "admire".
Very difficult for a League One club to compete if Hibs, Hearts and Celtic are interested. Impossible if it's Celtic, you'd say.
He's a player. There are a few about. We've clearly missed a number already.
He can turn quickly and make things happen. That's what's needed. Quick feet and quick brain.

From the Bolton news. A bit of a confusing selection of quotes and ordering there but doesn’t sound to me like we should be expecting incomings at this stage. The Bolton chief says nothing is currently in the pipeline in terms of incomings, although there could be further departures after Aaron Morley’s loan move to Wycombe.
“There are players who have been made available and we will see what happens with them,” he said. “Nothing is happening at the moment, and we will keep our eye on the other end.”

"Going with what we've got" is okay sometimes, but not as a mandate for no change as a regular theme song.
Si Deus pro nobis, quis contra nos?
Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Maybe we're in the market for a CM that will drastically increase our chances this season. It's slow going as we're fishing in a very competitive pond and we're being outdone by better sides.
It'll be interesting to see what we end up with and how that'll shape Evatt's thinking around our formation. As it stands, we're seemingly top heavy and light in midfield. No wonder Morley was looking for gametime elsewhere, hard to break into a side thats only got two in midfield.

By my count we have 5 centre midfield players. Quality nott withstanding - just how many do you want?Mar wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 10:22 amMaybe we're in the market for a CM that will drastically increase our chances this season. I think we're somewhat powerless over our incomings, because we're targeting players who might have better options. That's reasonable, if nerve-wracking.Mar wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 10:22 amMaybe we're in the market for a CM that will drastically increase our chances this season. I do wonder if we might lower the sights a little if *nothing* comes off. Especially if, perhaps, we're considering - I dunno - formational flexibility.

Do you think we are in the sort of place where we are really trying to sign more? Full squad, can’t imagine we’ve got lots left to spend. And the noises of ‘if someone who was out of reach becomes available we will look at it’ don’t scream to me that there is a real active pursuit of a player we definitely want.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 11:06 amI think we're somewhat powerless over our incomings, because we're targeting players who might have better options. I think we’ve recruited to a system (which to me is a mistake) but I’m not sure there are numbers wise huge gaps. We can say Argield and Dempsey aren’t ideal backups for the number 10 roles or that even Mcatee and Collins don’t have the skills we’d ideally want between them but that is still 4 big players there who Evatt thinks can play there. I’m not seeing a huge noise about ‘we are active in the market’ and frankly I’d not expect it.
They’ve spent a lot of money already.

Yep, I do. Not breaking our neck for it, but I think we have a list of players we like and if they become available then we might move to get them. Doesn't mean it will happen, but things do happen toward the end of transfer windows.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 11:22 amDo you think we are in the sort of place where we are really trying to sign more?
As I say, it's out of our hands - but we will have registered our interest, the phone will be on, and if Johnny Kickball comes available, we'll give it due consideration.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
We could flip back to a 352, particularly if the two new wing backs are a step up on last seasons. We got 93 points last season and consensus is we’ve upgraded. Wouldn’t need another signing although there’s the argument about whether we’ve replaced Maghoma.
