I had the pleasure of visiting Pittodrie, last weekend, watching Aberdeen v Kilmarnock. Aberdeen won 2-0 comfortably and it should have been at least 4-0. Kilmarnock had played in Denmark on the Thursday before and looked tired. Daniel Armstrong played for the first 57 minutes until being substituted following a red card to a Killie player.

Although well beaten on the day, he offered nothing in the game. He did huff and puff up the right wing but I saw nothing that convinced me he would be good for us. Yes he would be better than Cogley, who I would describe as steady at best, but not at a high transfer fee.

As an aside, Aberdeen would give us a game. I would describe them as a pretty decent League 1 side. Nothing more. Although probably not the best time to rate Kilmarnock, they were no better than a mid table League 1 team.
Do not trust atoms. They make up everything.

Looking at what-who we have already taken in from wherever, I will not be at all surprised if the "what we've got" I mentioned previously actually is the case and we change little or nought, either in or out. Just a feeling, but a strong one. I'll love to be wrong. :?

Just thinking about who is known to be available that we've wanted before.

Alfie Devine would be up there. Played well at this level, but maybe struggled a bit a level up.

Very much "the type."

An interesting and realistic shout. Underage too.

Although we may have a rival who might just be able to outbid us.

Spurs want an English loan for him, but they've wanted to get him into the Championship in a "footballing" outfit and nobody has made them the right offer yet.

I think we'd have a chance, but a number of other clubs are sniffing.

I'd be shocked if Spurs, or the player, had any interest in a move to Saudi. Ange rates the kid and they want a pathway for him. I'm not sure how the Saudi league helps him develop.

About 50 minutes into an interminable YouTube discussion, Ben Jacobs - who's quite well respected despite having something of the Stephen Merchant about him - cites Coventry and QPR as being interested in him, and mentions that others have suggested Sheff Wed.

Coventry would make sense. Palmer has apparently had a falling out and may move. Devine would fill that hole.

QPR were shopping, but they got Dembele. I had assumed they were out of the market.

He'll certainly have options.

Someone/persons must definitely be on the way out as Evatt has said that CMG will be named in the squad quota before the end of the window.

Just looking at the squad, I'm not sure there's a huge amount I'd change.

Baxter/Southwood/Coleman - You're doing no better at this level
Santos/Toal/Johnston/Iredale/Jones/Forino/Forrester - Again, you're probably not looking for a first teamer there.
Cogley/Desmond/Schon/Williams - Maybe you move Randell to avoid injury issues, but there's no shortage of ability.
Sheehan/Thommo/Matete - You can certainly argue for another #6, but the quality is great
Dempsey/Arfield - Seem like pretty stunning utility options in League One between the #6 and #10 roles
McAtee/Collins/Lolos/CMG - Two out at the minute, but when fit that's another where the quality is high. A star #10? Ideally, yes.
Charles/Vic/Dan - Two of the best of their type at this level and then our possible exit.

Dan needs minutes he probably won't get. Forrester and CMG are both out for at least 2 months, so that complicates things a bit. Jones and Iredale have been missing (with Jones injured) and not really spoken about. Coleman is clearly never going to play. Williams going for someone more like Cogley (physically) might make us more robust over a season.

Is that 23 we're at now for registration? That'd make sense of the "one definitely going" bit. Then one-in-one-out, or youngsters in (our Prem loan).

Randell out Armstrong in would really shake things up, but seems highly unlikely. I like it from a technical standpoint, though.

Ethan Brierley on loan would make a huge amount of sense.

It's tweaks, though, looking for the perfection you never reach in any window. Should be enough there to get to January well in the mix and reassess.

Barring any major outs. This is what we have after 5 years of building. All teams have imperfections. Over to you, Ian.

Journo Fraser Gillan saying Stoke might turf out Lewis Baker and Daniel Johnson. Either of those tickle your fancy, Ghost? (Yes, I'm bored.)
Not for me, no. I don't think we're putting big money (including wages) into that #6 grouping. Johnson would be an interesting one as a "We're just signing to have a go now", but I don't think he's what we're after.
FWIW, Johnson's now a free agent. And no, I'm not his agent. Just saying, like, as the clock ticks down. Definitely not underage though...

He's still got his legs and he's done it a division up. He's also been promoted out of this division before.

I stand by that I don't think he's what we were after, but if he showed up here he'd improve our options.

On the Daniel Johnson thing and because I'm also having a dull evening, there would be a lot to recommend him to us:

- Proven Championship quality
- Left-footed set pieces
- Intelligent ball-carrying
- Strong understanding of the #10 role
- Promotion experience
- Settled in the area
- Been available for over 75% of games in 8 of the last 10 seasons

Plenty to like, if it happened.

Grand. Either he'll be additive or not. Who was the Scottish lad we had in L2 who every time it hit his head it landed in the net and probably made the difference?

Generally the way of it. The standard failure rate of transfers is over 60%. You do the best you can.
