Yup. That reason being hamstring injuries.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 8:04 pmIf you’ve barely played any proper men’s football by 24 it’s too late. And there is probably a reason for that too.

It's been a bad signing. You can't say it any other way.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 8:26 pmI still wince at how he got that injury last season. By missing a retaken penalty in a papa johns game. If ever a moment subbed up a players career, that was it!
We knew he had hamstring issues when we signed him, so could we have managed that better? Cheltenham's manager thought so.
Does he look after himself as he should? No idea.
He's still under contract for 2 years, so I hope Cambridge get it right and he storms it. Won't hold my breath, but there's always hope.

Not sure that's what held him back from playing more before 24. He got 15 games with Premier League Southampton and has a host of clubs after him on loan.
The development aspect was definitely the hamstrings.

If you mean Crellin, and the one where Evatt said he had to man up, that was at Cambridge I think.Prufrock wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 8:16 pmWas that where he had his particularly bad mare for us?GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 6:24 pmWhere he's been joined by Billy Crellin.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 6:22 pmKhumbeni was loaned to Accy a while back, Mar.
Many a Wanderers player *has* had a mare at Accy, though....

This is a fun reminisce. I don't *think* I mean the man up game. He was generally awful a lot by the standards of a professional keeper, but there was one big looping, shanked cross that he seal clapped at that I remember thinking was sub Sunday League. I don't think it was that particular game; I thought it was Accy but maybe I'm merging trauma.

Just got a message from the "Come a long way" department - in 2020/21, when Crellin was here, Accy were in a higher division than us.Prufrock wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 9:27 pmThis is a fun reminisce. We *did* play at Accy in pre-season and Billy the Seal was in goal. We won 3-0 (2 pengies).

Getting ever closer to that 11 pm deadline. Still nothing happening in terms of anything that'll change our season.
It's felt like most seasons we've not gone strong on transfer deadline day and waited for the winter break before we take action. I also get the impression that there's been budgeting done to not give us too much depth each season so that we potentially save some money for an end of season push.
I might be wrong, thats just the impression i'm getting.

There are apparently millions to spend, but we don't have to spend it.
We are a creative #10 short. I will die on that hill. It'll make Evatt's life much tougher if we leave the window without one. However, we should have enough quality to score goals and get through the Jan in contention.
If we can then look again and use those millions to pick up lads on expiring deals, cool.

Ilesy expecting "extra time" but that's for the second outgoing which "could well change our thinking on which free agents are targeted"
So probz not Matheson then
Iredale? A surprise?

Can’t see past it being Iredale tbh.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 10:53 pmIlesy expecting "extra time" but that's for the second outgoing which "could well change our thinking on which free agents are targeted"

Got to be Iredale or Williams. Which would point to a defender being signed?
Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Iles reporting that there's still a deal to go through, despite it being 11pm. Paperwork going through surely.
No clue as to whether its incoming or outgoing so it could be a negative.

It’s either outgoing and we’re signing a free transfer or incoming under 21.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
A lot of people want Freddie Ladapo in. Can't say I'm one of them, unless Vic is off in the Turkish window.
Any League One coach would look at Aaron Connolly and think "yes, please", but with what's in the market I'd be fine going as is until January.
You'd 100% trade a fully fit Connolly for Nlundulu. Connolly with no preseason looks like a whole boatload of injuries waiting to happen, though.
I'm not happy about the lack of that #10, but this squad has enough in it to compete very well until January.

He's said it's an outgoing, leaving a space in the squad.

5 for 3 spots. Assuming Forrester isn’t back that quickly. Add in JDC as possible on right side too.
I’m not convinced we absolutely need a direct Iredale replacement should he be the one going.
