That's been the strongest link and it's a very reasonable call.
We let a forward and a defender go. We seem unlikely to sign another defender, so a forward makes loads of sense.
Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
You’d think that Connolly would expect to be a guaranteed starter in order to sign with us, no?

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
1 or 2 hinting that it may be Ladapo.
Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
That would look a good signing in isolation, but it would leave us with three starting quality number nines for one position. Unless it’s a precursor to Vic moving to Turkey?

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Ipswich fans seem to rate him, he's obviously not Prem level but he's more than capable for League one - I always thought he was a decent finisher, scored plenty at this level and is quite big & pacey, a much better version of Nlundulu I would say.

While sceptical about these ITK accounts, Ladapo does seem a more realstic signing than Aaron Connolly.
(Cue complaints about us signing a 31-year-old who scored 3 in 31 league apps last season)

I’d be at least 60/40 on Vic moving to Turkey if we sign Ladapo.

Oh I know he's got goals in him. Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
I just get a gut feel that Ladapo would be a couple of years too late and also might struggle for rhythm here given what else we have up top.
Doesn’t feel right to me.
Might be wrong. I have him down as the sort that could catch fire and get you out of a rut. Hope that would happen.

I’d think it more likely than not that Vic is leaving in the event that we sign Ladapo.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 1:50 pmOh I know he's got goals in him. I can’t imagine that Ladapo would be signing here to be third choice striker, nor that he’d be on low wages.

OIC. Fair.
It'd be nice to unwrap a new present, God knows we need a fillip, but I understand the reticence/uncertainty. I'm not entirely sure we need a 9 at all - we only use only one at a time in this system (and, let's face it, we don't readily switch systems), with Dion, Vic and probably McAtee already good options at 9.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 1:53 pmI just get a gut feel that Ladapo would be a couple of years too late and also might struggle for rhythm here given what else we have up top.

On the other hand, goals is goals, and he would add a little welcome height.
Is he fast? Pace is what I feel we're missing. Partly for that reason, I'm titillated by the thought (and it is only a thought, not a link) of Fred Onyedinma. Fast, adaptable, experienced but with a few years left in the tank. Course, it's entirely possible that someone who played in the Prem last year would laugh at joining us, but if you don't ask...

Someone good at hold up, someone fast and someone that shoot and stay fit. N'lundulu athletically fits the bill but was unable to trap the ball and do the rest. It would make sense to get that type of player. Wouldn't solve our problems but it probably would give us something we seem to be lacking.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
If we get Ladapo and lose Vic fo £1.5m then fair play.
£1m in profit (give or take).
It may be that we'd then also want Connolly. We are short of attackers for how Evatt likes to change things after an hour.
One injury to a striker right now and he's lost an option. With Charles, Vic and Ladapo we've got Evatt's full quota.
Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Onyedinma was the main name that stood out to me on the transfermarkt list. Plenty of good Champ and L1 experience, height, plays the 10(?).
I've liked Ladapo when I've seen him play too, but same concerns re too many players for one position. I think we'd miss Vic if that were the 'trade'.

Yeah for me it’s pace but also someone who wants to get the ball and take people on in wide areas. Someone who will drive at teams and give them something to think about. We are quite one dimensional and I’m not convinced it’s a number 9 we lack.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 2:07 pmOIC. Fair.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Aaron Connolly has plied his trade for Brighton in the PL, and three Championship clubs, as well as playing in Italy. According to wiki he’s represented Ireland at U17, U19, U21 and he has full caps for the Irish Republic too. He’s only 24, not even in his prime but he has bags of experience and he hasn’t found a club since being released by Hull City over the summer.
I don’t get it, why hasn’t he been snapped up by clubs at a higher level?

The Brighton fan I know says he's useless, but he's not the most nuanced of judges.Frank Drebin wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 2:56 pmAaron Connolly has plied his trade for Brighton in the PL, and three Championship clubs, as well as playing in Italy. Connolly started young but he may not be Premier level. That's fine. At his best he's probably too good for the third tier, and the Irish press say he has concrete offers from higher up plus the MLS.
When players don't get snapped up, it's usually one of two reasons (or a bit of both). Either they think they're worth a better offer than they've been given; or clubs are wary, for any number of reasons (personality, fitness, fitting in). No idea what it is with Connolly - although he has had injury problems, the reason he missed a lot of last term was because he got absolutely clattered by a goalkeeper. However, you look at him and it's tempting to think he's not looking after himself - he always tended toward the stocky, and players like that can look out of shape even if they're actually very fit.
