Yeah, sounds like Vic isn’t likely to move this window, which makes me think that the free agent we’re pursuing probably isn’t Ladapo.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 9:17 amAgree with all that, yes.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 9:01 amA broken rib from a sneeze would usually indicate some sort of underlying condition…….id assume it’s muscular - can be painful that.
I have an old rib injury and it causes severe muscle spasms every so often. I'm used to it now, but the first time it happened I thought I was having a heart attack. Couldn't breathe or move. First time it happened in front of my wife she totally freaked out. No way I could have played football the same day.
On the Vic moving on thing, Evatt's quoted in the article as saying Vic's going nowhere. Obviously managers lie, but you'd think he'd go with the standard "Vic's a Bolton player and we want to keep him", rather than something that categorical.

If we buy a load of glass cannons because we think it's worth the "upside," we can't complain if they get the wheels blown off more often.
I think we still have most of our "regular" starting XI fit (mighta missed one here)? Baxter, JDC, (Forino for Toal, although that sounded more in the it'll be reet category), Santos, Johnston, Schon, Sheehan, Tommo, Demps, McAtee, Dion, Collins?
That leaves Matheson, Arfield and Matete + "the surprise free agent" (this seems to be taking a little longer than anticipated)
4 due back by end of IB, Jones, Williams? (we'd expect them to be back in light training now?) Toal probably, Vic hopefully, Forrester - dunno, dislocations are usually ok if they pop back in decently
More than enough to win a game of footy.

I've got Forrester out till the beginning of November, although that might be slight guesswork from loose phrases a while ago. (There's a dislocation AND a break, I think.)

The point is, we have the core of the team, a bit of spare, but not much and we're really hoping that a couple come back over this/next week. Not ideal, but I guess this is where they earn the bucks. I assume we could recall Dan the Man

Re: Dem Bones, Dem Bones, Dem Bare Bones....
Not until Jan I don't think.
At which point he'll have finally assumed his final form as "new Ivan Toney", scored 20 goals. Vic and his rib will go to Turkey for £5m and Dan will return to fire us to the title.
Probably.

Edit: Surely at that point he pays his way out of his contract and feck* off to Al Ahli for a few hundred grand a week?

Hey, he scored he first goal for Cambridge in a penalty shoot out a couple of days ago and they've made him their #9. Their manager called him a "rare talent", so we'll see if he can get more of it onto the pitch.
At least he didn't cripple himself with the pen this time. Baby steps.

Adeboyejo's sneezing injury has been picked up as a 'funny old world' type story by Reuters, one of the world's largest news agencies. Expect to see it all over the net over the next couple of days.

Dion hooked at half time for Northern Ireland. He was very poor in the first half, for me, but worth keeping an eye on just in case he's picked up a knock.

What's more likely, Dion performing badly enough to get hooked at half time because he was poor and they thought a 34 year old Josh Magennis would be the better option, or him getting injured?GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 8:53 pmDion hooked at half time for Northern Ireland. Perhaps, they thought Luxembourg are that bad a team that it gives Northern Ireland a chance to field a rotated strikeforce and make use of the rest of the squad in the nations league.

With how Dion has played generally so far, and specifically against the mighty Luxembourg, I think he was probably just hooked.
He's scored some goals for us already this season and you can say that's all that matters, but he's generally been well off it. He's not offering enough runs, his touch is off, he's not pressing with anywhere near his usual intensity, etc.
Maybe he's still struggling with his knee. I don't know.
It's a concern that he was also off it before his knee issue. When was he last fully himself? The miss against Portsmouth apparently had an effect on him and then there was that issue in his personal life.
He went 7 or 8 games without scoring before he picked up the injury, if memory serves. Does that put it back to December?
We've already subbed him off this season for "not looking himself" and Evatt has had to deliver the old "We believe in Dion" speech.
Re: Dem Bones, Dem Bones, Dem Bare Bones....
Aye, Dion’s been shite for ages. If Vic’s recovered from the sniffles in time for the Huddersfield game he should absolutely get the start.

Maybe he thought/was hoping that a move to the Championship or a bgger club would happen this summer. As no one has come in for him he could be sulking a bit because he's still here.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 9:45 amWith how Dion has played generally so far, and specifically against the mighty Luxembourg, I think he was probably just hooked.

I've no idea, but the fact he was struggling before might mean it's unrelated to transfer stuff.sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 10:22 amMaybe he thought/was hoping that a move to the Championship or a bgger club would happen this summer. He missed a lot of preseason and he'll still be getting up to speed.
I'm not writing him off at this stage or worrying that he's wanting away.
Has he scored 2 goals so far? Orient and Shrews? If that's right he's scoring at about his normal rate. That's arguably the toughest part, so hopefully he picks up.

Sort of. He scored on Dec 29 at Fleetwood. He also scored in the home FA Cup game v Luton, but that was his only goal in the 10 games (all starts) in 2025 before his injury. After he came back he scored 3 in the last 7 games (2 subs then 5 starts) - but two were penalties.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 9:45 amHe went 7 or 8 games without scoring before he picked up the injury, if memory serves. Correct. Bit of a scuffer at Orient - edge of box, left foot, bounces like four times on its way past the keeper and into the corner (accurate then) - and a good finish at Shrews after they gave him too much space.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 10:33 amHas he scored 2 goals so far?
