The fuller quotes from the presser are interesting. A mate who was there says Evatt seemed genuinely rocked rather than arrogant – although of course that may return (reversion to the mean, etc) and even in these quotes he occasionally burbles back into self-help-speak. I've italicised those well-worn mantras below but I think it's the bold bits that are the honest truth.
I am distraught. I don’t really have the words. It's hard for me to come off the back of that and speak to you guys, as you can imagine. It is difficult to manage my emotions.
We were out-fought, out-battled, they were better technically than we were, it was as bad as I have seen since I have been at the club. It's extremely damaging and hurtful to us all at the football club.
From the moment the final whistle went at Wembley I felt a massive black cloud and negative energy around the whole club. At the minute I can’t seem to shift it and I can’t find the answers. I feel like that is everything against what I am as a person, what we have built here, and at the minute I don’t have the answers.
[WIll he leave?]
I don’t know. I've always tried to be straight and honest with you guys, very respectful, try to tell the truth, but the truth is that really hurt me. I've been through a lot of tough things in my life and it has created the man I am today. This is as tough as it gets. I don’t want to taint and tarnish everything I have done and created here. That today has really hurt me, personally.
One thing I always do is back myself. I am an extremely confident person. It is tough for me to give you the answers you want because I don’t have them right now. I need to go away and think and have some conversations, see what happens.

Nobody cares about his legacy but him. We don't want him to materially damage the club.
4 years here and it's still all about "Brand Evatt."
I think he's done a good job, overall, but the only personal growth he's shown was when he was waving it at a camera for Amy.

Probably needs a new manager thread he’s that far gone…
It needs to be someone who can work with what we’ve got. That left side of the team now we’ve let our only real out and out left back go is a problem. Go 4 at the back and it’s Johnston. Carry on with wing backs and hope Randell stays fit? Schon looks…errrm like he might need some work? Might work as a winger in a 433. Other side Cohley looks like the league two player we feared he was. Jones if he ever gets fit will surely come in as right back. Then Forino/Santos/Toal for the centre back positions. But first bit of recruitment for the new man is probably going to be down the left hand side, just need to get to Jan and hopefully pick enough points up to still be in a shout of play offs. Otherwise you start to go well we should sell anyone out of contract in the summer… which is a fair few.

I’d imagine Ryan Lowe will be favourite. Not sure on my choice yet.

Unless Evatt volunteers to go for nowt you'd imagine free would be a very attractive quality in a manager.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 7:06 pmI’d imagine Ryan Lowe will be favourite. Not sure on my choice yet.

Someone, preferably, who takes responsibility and accountability on themselves and stops blowing shandies up our arse. They have what we've got. Work with if.

Oh I agree. About as much chance of Pep rocking up here as David Moyes. Would of course be amazing but isn’t happening.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 6:33 pmSorry to dampen your ardour, and so soon after your Ainsworth twig, but a sixtysomething David Moyes in Division Three is about as likely as Dustin Hoffmann in your local church panto.

Any manager who talks about their brand or their project is and must be an instant no, never, ever ever.

Free or cheaply extricable. Michael Skubala, for instance, has only just signed an extension to 2028, so you imagine Lincoln would ask too much. Ruben Selles seems to be contracted to 2026 but Reading are a curious case and if the Couhig takeover were to collapse it's possible Selles would be amenable, available and affordable. Dave Challinor is also contracted to 2026, but at a much more cash-happy club (and doesn't seem to want a move anyway).GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 7:08 pmUnless Evatt volunteers to go for nowt you'd imagine free would be a very attractive quality in a manager.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 7:06 pmI’d imagine Ryan Lowe will be favourite. But they're just the most obvious ones, and recent managerial successes in this division haven't always been obvious. John Mousinho presumably didn't cost Pompey much to lift out of Oxford, where he was a player-coach - the Us seemed happy just to slap a 12-month ban on him buying any of their players. Later that year, Oxford hired Des Buckingham from Mumbai City. Successful managers can come from surprising sources.

Amazing Freudian Slip in Thommo's post match.
Fair play to the lad. That's a good interview under very difficult circumstances.
He's backing the manager who has made his career for him thus far, as you'd expect. He takes personal responsibility for his part and emphasises the responsibility of the group.
He's improved in front of camera massively since he started.
The players were dreadful today. They did let everyone down. If a new manager doesn't come in then they'll have to find solutions with the current one.
Any new manager coming in will be able to rely on him in a leadership group, you'd think.

The other thing to say about this is that I had a look not long since at unemployed managers with third-tier experience and hoo boy, there's not much. Alex Neil is the obvious other free agent. After that, if memory serves, it's a mighty drop.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 7:08 pmUnless Evatt volunteers to go for nowt you'd imagine free would be a very attractive quality in a manager.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 7:06 pmI’d imagine Ryan Lowe will be favourite. Of course, there may be other free agents without relevant experience - see my previous post about unexpected successes - but they're such 'unknown unknowns' it's hard to even imagine who they might be, till we get a whiff of a rumour ("there's this youth coach at City..." etc)

Any idea at all how much it would take to buy him out? Or is that even necessary? He can keep his shares if he still believes in his project

Yes and the job isn't to find a manager who took another club up, it's to find a manager who can take this club up.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 7:25 pmSuccessful managers can come from surprising sources.
