Context. It's a bold new approach.

Part way through Sam Allardyce on ‘Undr the cosh’ podcast. On about 55 minutes he starts weighing in on modern managers and how ‘tippy tappy’ football in your own half with players that aren’t up to it creates problems. Will resonate with some I am sure!

I’ve heard him talk about it outside the public glare. He does not hold back, let me tell you.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 8:15 amPart way through Sam Allardyce on ‘Undr the cosh’ podcast. Re: The ianevattable sacking
I watched it. It's usually entertaining and full of funny stories, but this was a boring episode tbh. He's never done anything wrong in his life. Anything good that has ever happened to anybody, is down to him and if anything didn;t work, it;s because of somebody else
It just reminded me why he's still sat on the sofa and not in the dugout
An astonishingly good manager in the past. But that's where he's stayed.

Probably because he’s nearly 70 and spends a good chunk of his time in the Middle East.boltonboris wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 4:16 pmI watched it. The man has an ego. But he walked the walk to justify it. He’s seen things we’ll never see (again).
His point about new age style is absolutely on the money as usual.

Re: The ianevattable sacking
I thought he sounded old for the first time really -some ‘I’ve forgotten’ or anecdotes trailing off. But the stuff on modern football made me think a bit - probably what I’d say if I was managing a side against us. Along the lines of telling the team to get the ball to our end and keep us in there, they will misplace a pass and give us a chance eventually. And the forward movement is slow enough to give you a chance to get back.boltonboris wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 4:16 pmI watched it. Agreed in general - I listened hoping for a bit more on the glory days - stories about some of our best ever players. But felt a bit short on those. Still interesting mind, and we’re clearly his club.

There’s basically two options now anyway:
1) tomorrow
2) Monday morning

Well, some may still say 10 games, or even "he'll turn this round". But if they say it, they're saying it very quietly, perhaps through sobs.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 8:42 pmHadn’t spotted my typo! Don’t wish you any ill mr Evatt!

It'll be Monday morning at the earliest, I reckon.

Not necessarily. In football it tends not to be an 0930 meeting in the HR office.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 8:49 pmIt'll be Monday morning at the earliest, I reckon.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 8:42 pmHadn’t spotted my typo! Don’t wish you any ill mr Evatt!

It doesn't seem to me unlikely that Evatt could resign to keep some sort of 'control of the narrative', especially if he's so convinced of his specialness. But equally, the decision to part may be followed by lots of negotiations on terms.

Oh of course, but it's the financial rather than football considerations which I think might mean we won't be seeing a photograph of our corner flag tomorrow.

Re: The ianevattable sacking
Aye maybe. A Ken Anderson type would sniff a resignation here but I think there’s a conversation with Sharon and a ‘mutual’ decision coming. Which would point to tomorrow pm at the earliest. The problem with not doing this when they should is we’re into a big run of games now - so we need a new voice and fast.

The question "with all the theory, how many Clubs have you taken from T4 to T1" Is always going to be a fairly short answer.

"I don't want to tarnish my legacy" screams resignation, but then I thought he'd walk after the final.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 8:53 pmIt doesn't seem to me unlikely that Evatt could resign to keep some sort of 'control of the narrative', especially if he's so convinced of his specialness. Re: The ianevattable sacking
Just five games into the season, I find it difficult to see Evatt resigning or FV sacking him. My guess - and it's no more than that - is that he'll get at least another ten league games: i.e. a third of a season, which takes us to around mid-November.

This season doesn’t exist in a vacuum, Tone. There are many who feel, with good reason, that the decline began a while back.TonyDomingos wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 9:36 pmJust five games into the season, I find it difficult to see Evatt resigning or FV sacking him.
