Fewer levellers that’s for sure.boltonboris wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 3:29 pmThe issue nowadays in these games is that it's increasingly unlikely to get an upset. A while ago, you'd be pumped up playing against a weakened team and you could take it to them.
Now, you do that and the oppo just literally change half their outfield to keep you at bay and eventually, it's a lot of effort for feck all reward

This is a game to enjoy.
Big new ground, famous stars on the pitch and our own plucky lads trying their best under the lights.
People fret too much about a game. This is one of those matches where you let your love of the game carry you through.
Everyone at the club should want to be involved and ready to give everything. Yes, it obviously comes with issues for the next game; but that's by the by. It's been years since we've had a cup tie like this, so let your hair down.
Have a beer and live the dream. If we can beat Arsenal we can beat anyone.

Some talk of Arsenal starting a 16 year old keeper, which would be a good development for us. Unfortunately I think it’s much more likely that it’ll be Raya.

I agree with Ghost. I think it safe to say if we put on a decent show, don't be embarrassed by the big-leaguers or get trounced, and get three points at Crawley Saturday we'll have done okay; more than okay actually.

The ground itself is fairly new, by footy standards. "Modern", if you prefer.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 8:01 pmDefinitely a game to enjoy.

I think we're slight underdogs in this one.
Close game but think Arsenal might nick one, two if they're lucky.

Honestly they could put me in nets, but feck it, it's what it's about. Especially after the last few months. It's a no lose game, injuries aside.

Several encounters with the Gunners stand out in memory over the years. One I'll never forget is the night cup game where a sensation seeking fan came floating down onto Burnden Park via a parachute, it's the truth.
That game ended 1-1 although Ian Wright almost stole our glory with an audacious flick that wrong-footed all our defence. We lost the replay but they were real glory days. Night cup games always stay in mind from ending in draws, like being escorted away from Gladys Street by mounted policemen and walking a mile in fog to be locked out of Elland Road. Ah, the memories..
We don't fear the Arsenal.. Bring em on...

The 3-1 away win in the FA Cup replay in 1994 - when Arsenal were the Cup holders and we were L1/3 - remains one of my all-time favourite games. 5,000 in the Clock End that night.

Yep. I'd not long moved to London back then and my Arsenal supporting colleague was still finding post-it notes with the scoreline weeks laterTonyDomingos wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 10:35 amTANGODANCER wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 9:30 amSeveral encounters with the Gunners stand out in memory over the years. Seems to have been confirmed that Arsenal are going to play this 16 year old in goal. Sounds like a shoot on sight job to me, should we ever make it into their half.

I mean the kid is a real footballer, not a competition winner. Hopefully it helps us but I'm not expecting it to make that much of a defence tbf!

As soon as we put a cross near him and a challenge goes in, those fannies will be screaming like they always do and he'll get more protection than Michelle Mone in a fraud enquiry

Aye, but there’s a reason you virtually never see 16 year olds playing in goal for men’s teams. Donnarumma the only one I can think of in recent times.

It's the future. Complain about bad tackles, complain about marginal tackles, complain about legitimate tackles...I know let's remove tackling...boltonboris wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 3:21 pmAs soon as we put a cross near him and a challenge goes in, those fannies will be screaming like they always do and he'll get more protection than Michelle Mone in a fraud enquiry

Even with a 16yo in goal, Evatt will stick to the brand and direct the players to walk the ball in.

I know, let's get behind the team, good bad or indifferent, they're our team. Arsenal are nothing to us. COME ON YOU WHITES... (although we'll probably be in black tonight?)..

If we get any free kicks just inside their half it'll be criminal if we don't lob at least one of em in the box.
