Prawn Sandwiches aren't Posh any more. At Home to Peterborough Sat, Oct 26th 3-o'clcock.

Where fellow sufferers gather to share the pain, longing and unrequited transfer requests that make being a Wanderer what it is...

Collins, McAtee, Vic and Toal start.
JDC to RWB.

Dempsey injured. Charles, Williams and Arfield drop to bench, where they'll sit with Sonny Sharples, who replaces Sam Inwood.

Intrigued - I guess it’s the right word - with the front three. Think it could work with wingers supplying Vic in the middle but I see our midfield getting overrun again.

Back to the three up top I guess.

Sod the protection for the defence. It's outscoring the opposition day.

We’re looking to Out-Peterborough Peterborough.

Last season's injury, which Sharon thought so defining, was a hand.

Geth is not just a mystery but a worry. When something goes this long without much mention I fear it may not be a physical thing. Similar for Coleman's prolonged absence for all this month.

TBF Toal took it off Tomo when the latter was injured or subbed; only when both Tomo and Toal were unavailable did George Johnston take the armband. So we're just reverting back up the list. Santos has been ever-present but not been given the armband. Gethin has been never-present, bless him.

As I've just said to my mate, with this XI we're back to the continuing adventures of "3-4-3 or McAtee at No.8: Which is worse?"

Mansfield/Brum still drawing, and as it stands, we can say we put 5 past a top six team...

Reads like 343 DSB, aye.

3-3.

Okay, I'll be the boring one. TACKLE, TACKLE, TACKLE.....Running off players and shouting and pointing like a demented t-c-tac man at the races, just won't work against players prepared to fight for every ball. Get at em in two's and don't give them time to think. That, don't concede soft goal and take chances is the lot in one sentence. At em.. :Jedi:

Baxter is a top keeper, but I’m beginning to understand why he’s currently plying his trade in League One.

I wouldn’t be surprised by any result today, bar maybe a 0-0. We could tonk them, they could tonk us.

Anyway, get at ‘em Whites.

His injury issues are concerning. If they're there at all. Perhaps we've gone to him and said we want him to sign a new deal only for him to turn around and delay, prompting us to look into using Southwood more.

I also get the impression that the injury he had last season was probably something he could've played with sooner, although for his career you can understanding the thinking in terms of delaying it. Either way, theres probably some ill will given we didn't get promoted off the back of missing him so much.

Aye. Really could go either way though. In truth there's not much shape-shifting between calling it 3-4-3 with McAtee as one of the front triumvirate, and 3-1-4-2 with Sheehan behind McAtete. Not least as the players are in constant motion - it's not table football. I had a look at the heat maps for recent games and it's a bit of a fine distinction - you can just about tell.

Nothing wrong with that per se, but it just makes me worry slightly that we know what we're doing when Posh can kill you in transition.

Fear you are right about Jones DSB, sadly. Though begs the question why we released Iredale with no replacement.

I don’t particularly mourn Jones’ absence as a player, but I wonder whether he was important as a leader/organiser.

I second this opinion.

Jones was a key part of the squad that got us promoted. More because he acted as someone for the squad to get behind and push us forward.

If Santos and Jones have both had their involvement massively effected thats bound to have an adverse impact on the squad as Evatt looks to rebuild.

All player reps grow stronger in their absence but I did feel he was a better "attacking centre-back" – getting forward, linking up - than just about all of the alternatives. Had his drawbacks defensively (chiefly lack of height) but it's not like we've been impermeable without him.

Yeah that's my worry with it. For ant 2 players for 2 positions far too often in transition it feels like we have 2 in the 8 and none in the 6. :-)

One thing I've noticed over Baxter is Southwood does look to distribute quicker.
