Personally I wouldn’t be bothered if any of them left. They’ve all let us down to varying degrees. I like Dempseys character but he’s not the brightest and he’s always injured. Sheehan goes missing when it matters most. Thomason again good character and will still improve but he’s still replaceable. Morley I suspect has fallen out with Evatt and we were all happy enough for him to be loaned out. Matete is really inconsistent (just like the team!).

I’d love us to sign a proper tough midfielder who you wouldn’t mess with. Someone who drags everyone else’s performances up a notch and when we go 1-0 down at Wigan won’t just accept defeat. That’s moving the needle. That’s what we don’t have. All of our midfielders (perhaps not Dempsey but when is he fit) don’t have that. Thomason may do eventually.

Would be happy to see them all leave tbh. A team of let downs. Not a fan of any of them.

The issue is more who can actually be moved on.

I'm really not a fan of Arfield, but I don't think he can be moved on this window.

No. Best we can do with him is de-register him
I guess?

Then we'd probably sour relations with a player who was brought in to improve the atmosphere and mentality.

Hard to defend the Arfield signing at the minute. Less successful than the Jerome deal and that was pretty bad.

Well, Iles is now reporting that Dempsey could actually be done for the season.

So that would free up another midfield space!

The most BWFC squad solution in history, isn't it.

9 isn't too many midfielders if 6 are likely to be injured.

We probably need to get someone other than Dr Nick from the Simpsons on medicals at some point.

https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/2 ... -new-bids/

We made bids for two players last week, got knocked back, have today made improved but final offers for them.

Evatt: “We have made one or two bids for players which, at the moment, have been rejected, but we are about to up them today. Obviously we always have a valuation on players and we are at those now, so if we don’t achieve them we will look for something else."

Morley plays for Wycombe because you can't officially recall players until the window opens.

Evatt: "He will be available for Saturday at Exeter City.” Iles: "Wycombe’s offer to take him back on loan with an up-front payment of more than £100,000 has been turned down, with Wanderers indicating they are only considering a permanent move at this point."

Evatt on the window in general: “I do think there will be movement now. Our main aspiration in this window isn’t depth, it is to move to needle and improve our first XI. Obviously when you sign new players things change within your own squad and there will be people who want regular game time that we can’t necessarily offer them. They may look to exit."

Actual transfer news from Evatt is that we've had two cash bid rejected and have made improved offers today. Those are out final offers and we'll move on if they're rejected.

One is the play-maker Evatt wants. The other is apparently a defender.

So there's money to spend without selling.

*edit* I see DSB beat me to it.

Our recent history of figuring out market values for players has not been good. Hopefully this time we have a handle on it.

Paddy Lane, who we wanted before Pompey got him, is looking for a move back up this way.

Might be one to keep an eye on this window. Huddersfield were credited with interest.

IIRC, we never used that final player position that we left open and didn't attribute to Matheson. Seems strange that Matheson's not been given the squad spot given it resets half way through the season.

Jones ahead of Forrester. Charles starts. No Vic in the squad again.

Speculate wildly as to what it all means for transfers.

Evatt dusting off the bingo machine now he's got more players available. All in the hope of stumbling across the magic combination.

Forrester was selected ahead of Jones in the match coming off the bench. Presumably it's just rotating game time and not much to be read in that. I've been quite impressed with Forrester in recent weeks so I don't suspect its anything to do with form.

All opinions but I think that's the end for Will. Got his one game after Wycombe then immediately dropped and behind Jones now who's been poor. If we're in for another CB as well...

My concern is that we have set some low standards for ourselves. Some very average and below average performances by some players are hailed as "fine". Forrester, Jones, Johnston, the new thomason Charles etc are really very average players or, to excuse them, we can say the manager has made them average. We need better.

Form vs quality, though, as ever.

Jones was never really good at this level, but he was solid consistently. Now he's just bad.

We know Thommo, Charles etc can be really good at this level. They're out of form.

You can't write-off every out-of-form player. Especially when the entire team is a mess right now.
