At this point, I can't even conjure up a devil's advocate reason to keep him on. Any brain-dead, shit manager could get this lot into 10th position. The division is appalling and always has been, losing to a team with a fecking warehouse and a tractor for a stand, feck me. He's the worst manager in my lifetime.
It’s possible Sharon has run out of money and backers and can’t afford to change the manager.

That’s about all I can come up with that would explain it in any reasonable light.

Maybe they can raise another wanderers bond to pay him off.

They must have money as Evatt has said that we have 2 bids in for players that we are going to increase.

Surely its much better to use any transfer fee or loan fee money in this window to pay Evatt and his Blackpool mates off and bring someone else in - Evatt is now becoming despised by the supporters, they are turning in him which never ends well.

It's a pity the chairman & board don't appear to know much about football, otherwise like the fans they would see clearly that Evatt needs to go now - his football is dire, his game management is poor and more importantly the supporters seriously hate his turgid 'sideways and backwards everywhere we go' style of football.

Evatt mumbling on about transfers doesn’t mean there is the money there to sack Evatt his back room and bring a new setup in with presumably new player demands. We don’t know what those bids are how much they are and of course what sales they might be contingent on. We might have for example £500K to spend but that might not be enough in Sharon’s view to replace the manager and all that goes alongside that. We might have nothing to spend but expect to sell Morley.

I’m not suggesting this is the case or likely just that it’s the only scenario where Sharon doesn’t look dreadful. If genuinely the money isn’t there.i still think it more likely she is just deluded.

Sharon’s just as stubborn as Evatt. She’s refusing to accept that he’s done and she was wrong to give him shares and back him through all the allegations etc. to the detriment of the club. Poor.

That comes down to loyalty over economics. I admire Sharon for the first but the rest is industry v sport and wherever money is the priority, sport will take second place. As a lifetime Whites supporter it hurts to see people becoming millionaires from being good at kicking a football around which in what was once a job, not a career. Moreso, a lot of those raking in fat profits probably don't give a damn about the game. That's why I admire Sharon and think we're lucky to have her. Evatt's stubborness baffles me but it's a classic case of someone looking for someone to blame who looks everywhere but in a mirror. :hang:

SB made her position clear in her Christmas message:

"As Chairman of Bolton Wanderers, I would also like to take this moment to reaffirm my loyal support - and that of the entire club - for our manager, Ian Evatt, his staff and the players, and to highlight the strength of the journey we are all on together.

"I met with Ian and his staff and all the players last week and they are a special group of people who are fully committed to this football club and understand the task in hand this season; that we need to progress again. I think both loyalty and continuity bring long-term success and that is our model which I do believe is different from others. It definitely brings frustrations at times but getting to the top is never easy."

I've highlighted the bit I think is crucial to understanding her approach here. She's given Evatt a contract to June 2026 and I don't see her terminating it before then.

I think you're broadly right – clearly she's not fretting about the sunk cost fallacy - but I think there could well be a tearful decoupling in summer if/when promotion is finally ruled out, either by playoff defeat or worse.

Or, if things get really loudly nasty at several successive home games. But I don't think it very likely that he'll get turfed this month, no matter how many times this site goes down and briefly raises my hopes.

This run of away games may be doing him a favour, keeping him away from the home crowd. But if he loses them all, good god that place will be a bear pit and rightly so.

He's the manager. Despite the mood of the moment, we have suffered through worse. It could start to get close in a few games, though.

A loss at Exeter would be extremely damaging, especially with Rotherham to follow. Checking the fixtures, I think I'm set to only miss one game for the rest of the season (away at Posh) - so I would very much appreciate it picking up.

I fear it might take some really very good signings even to get us into the top 6. The rut looks deep at this stage. You could easily see us only picking up 3-4 points from the next 5 league games. That might put us double digits off the play-offs.

Next home game is over 2 weeks away. Enough time to sign a couple of players and get them bedded in a bit. If we can pick up points away from home then maybe a really strong showing against lowly Cambridge gets the crowd up for Charlton.

The thinnest of tightropes.

Quite easily, given we've only picked up 4pts from the last 5.

I don’t think she will sack him regardless and I suspect crowds of 8-9K (real numbers) next season. Sharon is a custodian of Bolton Wanderers not Ian Evatt.

When the home crowds start really turning she’ll be left with no choice. She’s showing more loyalty than 99% of owners would, but ultimately the fans dictate the fate of managers.

The more frequently and louder the fans chant anti Evatt songs as they apparently did yesterday at Mansfield - he will go, either voluntarily (agreeing a pay off etc) as his narcissistic personality won't be able to handle the 'we want Evatt Out', 'Ian Evatt your football is shite' chants OR the board will have to sack him as it will start to affect the players (although they can't get much worse) and get so toxic that they have to act.

I mean the away crowd is most loyal was sold out yesterday and made its feelings clear. As have the home crowd. I don’t think Brittan will care tbh. Best case it forces Evatt to resign but I can’t see it - his career is dead - a year ago or post Oxford he maybe had enough leeway to get another job. Now - not a chance - not with a club close to the stature and size of BWFC.

Sharon’s message was following significant discontent and fans singing anti Evatt songs against Wigan. It’s continued. I don’t see how it changes her mind.

If it gets a lot louder and more frequent she will have act, but as I said I think he will leave as his ego couldn't cope with it (with a pay out etc.)

I think we’re into turning our backs, not attending for first five minutes, chucking tennis balls on the pitch to get her to wake up and do something to be honest. Certainly this season.

I’ve had a season ticket for 32 consecutive seasons.
If we don’t make the playoffs and SB doesn’t remove Evatt at season end, then the only option I have as fan is to vote with my feet.
