We need a team, not random maybe "assets." (Although they're welcome in a P&L sense). Following the Brentford/Southampton playbook we do seem a bit light on £15m assets....

Enough of this experiment please. It''s not ours, people have done it already/better, could we just get up a div?

If we’re following that model we’re doing a fecking bad job of it. :D

Indeed, but it's difficult to understand why we sign some folks if we're not. We probably have half a dozen to eight players on the books where you ask yourself "how does this player now fit into what I think is the onfield plan to get us up a division." As an example, our first team webpage lists 4 goal keepers. Why? Dunno it's got me beat, we generally don't have one on the bench. Yet at the same time we're told "this is the only good way to build a club. We'd rather try and make an asset than try and buy one that fits.

On goalkeepers, has Joel Coleman even been seen in the wild this season since the chairman hung him out to dry in her midsummer apologia?

I find it hard to fault the Southwood signing.

Yeah, we have an extra keeper on the books now. Anyone wish it was still Coleman coming in for Baxter? Can't say I do.

Southwood is an upgrade, but we still list 4 on the books.

Someone said to me a while back that Coleman is a great player to have in training and he sets standards for the goalkeeping group. No idea if that's why we've still got him or if it's just a case of there being no takers. Suspect the latter, obviously.

Ultimately we just had an extra year of a keeper who wasn't very good. Bad signings happen.

There's actual poor work in there. The midfield overload was avoidable, as was the build-up of sicknote players. Years of signing too many crocks has consistently bitten them.

One of 'em's a kid on about ten bob a week. Not even near the biggest issue for me.

Possibly Dempsey if he's ruled out for the season, if he's even seeing the specialist next week, we're not sure.

Yeah, that's a very good question.

Loaning out Carlos seems to be an option. Believe we have options there now if we want to pull the trigger. Fleetwood are certainly interested, but expect it'd be League One if we did it. Think Fleetwood also expect him to be out of their reach.

If Vic isn't really ill that would also free something up.

Deregistering Dempsey seems to be the other immediate option, depending on his scan results.

If we are trying to get two more done though it's only going to grow as an issue. Players definitely have to go.

I’d rather keep Carlos and let Lolos go. Don’t think he’s good enough. Carlos offers something different and he’s not had a good go yet (mainly cos he’s injured a lot like everyone else we sign!).

One way to consider this is number of minutes played. According to my instruments, these are the least-used (numbers are minutes in all comps but excluding time added on):

0 Coleman (doesn't take a squad space)
46 CMG
153 Morley
395 Forino
596 Arfield
598 Osei-Tutu
737 Forrester
792 Lolos
805 Dempsey
843 Jones

Now clearly they largely reflect unavailability through injuries, but I suspect each of us would make our own suggestions of the dispensable players therein. Course, it might be a more regular face who's in demand elsewhere - for the record, Victor's played 1286 minutes, Dion 1593.

He's been on the bench for the last five games and only played 46 minutes (plus added), whereas Lolos has started all five. So it looks like Evatt disagrees with you - which may be neither a shock nor a worry to you :D

Does feel right now like he'll only bring CMG on if we're winning easily (Lincoln) or desperate (Mansfield). I don't suppose it helps that we were 1-0 up against Barnsley when he came on...

As ever, yeah.

My take on it is that you'd move on Jones, deregister Dempsey (assuming his scan is bad) and loan out Carlos; but others on here will differ and I suspect Evatt would too.

Arfield doesn't even enter my thinking, but he will be in Evatt's.

There's a strong case for Forrester being loaned out to play a full half season, but I would like him to stay and play here.

The other side is Toal. If something really bad has happened there then hamstring surgery is rarely less than half a season.

Guess it also depends who's coming in, and in what position. Largely you'd suggest one in one out for each position. So if we get another centre-back - and again, remember we went for Liam Cooper - you imagine it's curtains for a Forrester, Forino or Jones.

On the other hand, remember the young-Prem-loanee type wouldn't take up a slot. And if Dion/Vic leaves it's possible we regard Lolos as less of a 10 and more of a 9 (he's got a lot to learn but "chase them down" isn't hard).

This Jellis thing is gaining momentum. Seen by a lot of people as the most talented midfield all-rounder in League Two.

Would further complicate the midfield overload issues, but a very good player.

Liam Cooper made loads of sense. A left-footer who wouldn't block Johnston's pathway as he recovers.

We do want another defender in. There's been too much stuff around Paudie O'Connor for that to just be guff, but our league position and the turmoil around Evatt has to impact who is and isn't realistic.

We can't just stick. Too many injuries and potential for more with the lads we have. We need someone robust.

When you say "all-rounder", do you mean equal parts Faye and Okocha? :D

That's the one. The perfect hybrid of Vieira and Zidane. Could be the greatest player of all time.

If we are bringing Randall in, why would we also want Jellis who is also a midfielder.

I would be surprised if its us who's in for Jellis, who I'd never heard of until today.
