If we are bringing Randall in, why would we also want Jellis who is also a midfielder.

I would be surprised if its us who's in for Jellis, who I'd never heard of until today.
Randall is a #10. Jellis is a bit more like Dempsey.

So it's a #10 and an #8, in old money. With Morley coming back in primarily as a #6 and Matete and Sheehan already on the books, it looks like thought-out business.

With Dempsey injured and Thommo struggling for form it wouldn't be a crazy thing to do.

Would mean some major surgery in that area, though.

If we could sign a 23-year-old Dempsey, but without the injury woes, I'm not sure I'd complain.

People have been calling for changes to be made in the squad. We seem to be trying.

It's entirely possible we went for two players at the same time and are going with the first deal we can get sorted, but they look like two different roles in our system.

For what it's worth there was first stuff about our interest back in late November. The usual customers on social media have started to push it, but it's our friend Pete the journo who has the scoop. He's not named us as yet, but I think it's well understood we've been in the mix.

It's footy, though. Could end up with neither. Shirt, scarf, pitch, etc.

Who do we de register for Randall (if its us who had the bid accepted ?), if we don't sell anyone before next weekend.
Just reading the Portsmouth local press (as one does) and: "the initial list previously submitted in September can be readjusted on a game-by-game basis throughout January, allowing temporary flexibility."

So (assuming that also applies in our division) it's not like we have to deregister, say, Dempsey for the rest of the season right now. We could register a new player replacing him (or Forino, say) and then change it later, as long as we don't go over the number at any given point.

EDIT
forget it, I'll post separately

De registering forino might be an option - even if he’s now not injured he missed pre season and then played about 3 games? So he’s going to need a few weeks to get up to speed.

That would seem incredibly harsh on the lad, and also financially wasteful. We’d still have to pay him, and presumably he’s rated by the manager.

Couple of other interesting points in that Pompey story. Further on it says

The long-term injured [Ibane] Bowat was deregistered in November to allow Colby Bishop’s return...

So that's interesting - if I'm reading that right, potentially we could deregister Dempsey/Forino for now and then re-register him when someone else is ruled out later (as they surely will be) - right? :conf:

One more thing:
...and, with four other centre-halves plus Connor Ogilvie also on their books, it’s a department which again could be cut. Potentially loaning out Ryley Towler or Tom McIntyre may be the solution, helpfully opening up a space for any new central defender to then be registered.

Now, since this article was published (sparrowfart Friday) Pompey have signed a centre-back, Rob Atkinson, who came on as sub in their defeat at Sunderland. So I'm intrigued to see the name Ryley Towler mentioned as a possible loan-out; he's always impressed me. Left-footed, 6ft 2, not a bad passer but feels like a "head it first" type – and he particularly caught my eye by scoring twice (one header, one close-range finish) as a sub against us when we lost 3-1 down there a couple of Januarys back. He might not be the first "needle-mover" name, but I'd be intrigued to consider him.

Towler is an interesting shout. Well and truly on the out at Pompey, certainly. They've been playing midfielders at centre half rather than him and he's apparently been fully fit, so he needs to leave. Evatt's sort of centre back too.

He did play today, mind. But Mousinho's brought his mate Atkinson in now, so...

As I say, I've heard nowt to suggest we are interested and it may not be a name to make many relaunch HMS PTL, but I do think he could do a job for us - especially if Johnston is going to flag so badly and Toal/Jones struggle hugely on that side.

Also, there's this, which never ever fails to please me.

Yeah, they've run out of both centre backs and mids. He played next to Pack, who got sent off.

Still think his face doesn't fit.

That video is quality. Very Gareth Keenan.

Is Jellis a poor man's Oztumer? I seem to remember that signing being lauded as a huge deal for us at the time. He'd been sensational for them, barely raised an eyebrow after the move.

Jellis is perhaps who we’d look at if Wycombe stump up the cash for Morley. No room otherwise.

That's entirely possible.

If Vic left and Lolos moved up front then Jellis would be exactly the profile of player you'd expect us to look at.

Odd situation to be in. Between systems and with a load of injuries clouding the matter.

They'll have a plan. Last one didn't work, so let's hope this one does.

I'm wondering if the reference to the "long-term injured Bowat" isn't merely factual but also relevant to his deregistering, in the sense that deregistering between transfer windows is permitted if it can be demonstrated that the injury is sufficiently severe.

If the lad ‘doesn’t want to sit on the bench’, I can’t see that Bolton would hold much appeal.

We’re overstocked in that department, for me. If Vic is getting sold I don’t think he needs to be directly replaced.

Can't say I know enough about him. He scored a beautifully taken goal as part of a hattrick on NYD and his name has cropped up at times in terms of "ones to watch."

He's local to Evatt, which might mean Ian has been able to get a proper look at him.

Can't say I'm averse to picking up non-league talent.

If he's 23, part-time and playing in the seventh tier then he's very unlikely to be one to watch! The idea that he could play in the Championship is bonkers! And nobody quote me Jamie Vardy; I'll give you Muhammadu Faal in return :D

Wasn't Charles the same age when he left Southport for Accrington?

According to wiki, he signed for Fleetwood (then L1) when he was 21 before dropping down to sign for Southport and, subsequently, Accrington and us. He'd also been on Blackpool's books as a youngster. It seems a very different career to this lad.

He was still assessed as only good enough for the football league at 23.

If he's good he's good.

No idea if he's good enough, but I won't exclude the possibility.
