"...and you can shove Lindum away up your Colonia!" - Lincoln away (EFL Trophy) Tuesday 14th Jan 2025 7pm

Aye, Worthy. Sad thing is that Evatt used to adapt *well*, on the whole. Sure, Dapo was lost in a formation change, but it really suited the rest of them - particularly Fossey, once we realised he couldn't tackle a fish supper, but also other then-members of the team; overall, it was of net benefit.

I just can't really see that happening now. Even if we went back four, it feels like it's not just the big picture that's been lost, but the subtleties and above all the momentum. I could be wrong, it's happened before.

Evatt turned a season around in both his first and second seasons.

We were in a far worse points position at this stage in 21/22 and we finished the season strongly following good signings.

This does feel different, though, as you say. Then we were new to the league and not quite having the quality was an understandable issue.

This time the quality is there (our "promotion rivals" want to buy it from us to get them up), but performances aren't.

We've seen Morley go on loan to Wycombe and be one of the best players up the top of the league. Now Huddersfield have bought our striker to fire them to promotion.

Evatt looks more like an anchor than the captain.

Evatts deficiencies have been there all along and the only chance was if he was prepared to seriously learn from those who knew better, those with experience. But he hasn’t. And has doubled down on his own failings.

It’s rather like Coyle. You can get away with deficiencies for a while until people start to point at them and your opponents exploit them.

I’ve said all along you don’t get out of league one playing the football Evatt wants to and that it’s the worst watch possible. This is now not an opinion but what’s happened. You don’t get anywhere continually falling out with your best players either. Or through a weak mentality. All these things are now hard coded into Evatt and it’s all far far too late to change them.

Yeah, it's not that you can't do some form of it. Pompey, Plymouth, Ipswich all played front foot possession. We're just not very good at it.

They all had better managers. That's the issue. What he's *trying* to do is fine, he just can't get us to do it well enough

They weren’t wedded to some weird football experiment. There is more than ‘direct’ and possession based football. A lot of things in between. None of those sides were obsessed with their centre halves trying to draw the oppositions midfield out. Or refused to cross a ball.

They don’t. Teams get out who are able to play at high tempo. Able to sometimes make games transitional. We are and have been completely one dimensional and are now parodies of ourselves.

But I maintain you cannot go up without having real tempo to your play at times and an ability to deliver balls into the box. We are a team who can’t cope in a transitional game or deal with what Wigan or Oxford or countless others do to us tactically.

Again, you're looking at failure to produce the intended result and claiming it's the intended result.

Evatt's sides have indeed played high tempo, attacking football with mixed focal points. It's how we picked up so many points.

You just pretend those things never happened to suit your own agenda on here.

You’ve spent years gaslighting on here as much as Evatt does.

We play high tempo football when teams let us. Which has become few and far between as everyone has worked out exactly how to stop us. But Evatt himself continually says we aren’t up to playing transitional games. It doesn’t suit us he says. Which is the problem.

I’ve said for years that trying to be a league one man city is asking for disaster and that is exactly what has happened. Managers take sides up out of this league by making it simpler for players. Not more complex. They have roles they can understand.

If we were good enough to have our centre back roll it to try and draw out a midfield press, spring a trap and then go we’d all be laughing. But we simply don’t have the players and never have. Evatt’s football is the problem. And everyone can see it.

Intended result. Promotion from League 1. Actual result. Non-promotion from League 1.

Important to remember though - we were just a mere year behind Plymouth…..

Away to Port Vale or Wrexham in the quarter final.

Puts hands up.

I care for this one. I'm counting the season as a write off, so hopefully progressing in this one with actually give this season some meaning.

That being said, I don't particularly fancy our chances at the minute given our performance levels, but maybe we can progress far enough to make it interesting.

Imagine winning it and the atmosphere being that toxic that the team's practically celebrating to the fans in a manner that says 'see, told you were weren't shit', Vic's finger to mouth style.

Still, i'd rather us give it a good crack.

Given that Wrexham tried to sneak into Europe before they make the Prem, via the Welsh cup, maybe we could have a go at winning the tin pot and then just turning up at the Europa Conference draw and seeing if anyone notices we shouldn't be there? Take the trophy along, it looks pretty flashy.

HT Vale 1-1 Wrexham, but stats suggest Disneyland are dominating.

3-1 now. Wrexham clearly the better side, but could easily be 3-3. Two really good saves from Okonkwo.
