 yeah, but not by 7 or 8!
Small mercies, but he was right. I just watched the Huddersfield loss back yesterday and yet I still had the next one down as a home game.

Might be time for an MRI

If I apply the "vital goals equation" to McAtee or most scorers, I suspect yoy could often spin it similar. :-)
Oh of course. McAtee has an enormous amount to prove to be be considered anywhere near as good as prime Dion.

What I'm saying is that prime Dion left the building a while ago, for whatever reason.

Aye, the question for me is, is that because prime Dion isn't there anymore or because Evatt changed a thing that wasn't broken. Agewise, 30 ain't old if, given the right conditions he bags you 20+. Guess we'll never know.

I think we all agreed after Oxford that something needed to change. But the changes have made us worse. As you say, in the absence of alternate-world A/B testing we will never know how much of that was systems, tactics, personnel, management, recruitment, stasis, sunk cost fallacy, blind faith, blind arrogance, sorry what were we talking about again? :D

Yes, he does. However, he is showing a pair of balls at the minute and scrapping during a difficult period. Prime Dion (hallowed be his name, the greatest Bolton player of this generation - that last bit being a direct quote from social media) was in a much better team, as noted.

In a decent Barnsley side most felt he was their best attacker.

Evatt has to make this collection of players look like a football team. He had a run of it even this season. Feels too late, as everyone says; but he's still here to on we go.

Charles over a lot of seasons at a number of clubs bags at under 1 in three at this level.

Mcatee at 1 in 4 and most of that is based on a singular season (that he finished poorly in too).

He’s been an absolutely dreadful signing thus far. One of the worst I can remember the club making taking into account the fee.

You sang the same song about Dion when he was fairly new here.

He cost a million quid. With that record. He’s been absolute garbage here. He’s not a kid.

Players need time, structure and the environment to flourish. All of them.

That's more true the lower down the pyramid you go.

You can by talent, but that's only part of it.

Macca and Schon have come into an unstable situation and are still our hardest working players, consistently. That should earn them some time in a more stable environment because people get on their backs.

Has McAtee been played as a 9 for any length of time during his career? I didn’t think he had, although I reckon that’s probably his best position.

This is why they are probably struggling with Evatt as manager, the structure & environment doesn't appear to be working or helping - the same can be said about Evatt's bollocks DNA stuff.

I doubt that any of the new players played the Evatt 'sideways & backwards' style of football prior to joining BWFC, which I think is a large part of the problem asking players to play in a system & style that they are not accustomed to.

No. Not in the sense of a traditional English striker.

I think this one is in the "all teams get new players" category so it should be broadly neutral.

Certainly seems like the obvious thing to fix, but he's staying.

We're talking about Dion as we are because Evatt did give that player what he needed to flourish.

Evatt took Dion and Vic and, for whatever people think about Vic, turned them into one of the best pairings in the division. He's never got this side creating enough for the strikers, but that pairing dragged us up the pitch and won us football matches. The press, which genuinely was exceptional, started with them.

From the front we had an understanding of what was supposed to happen.

He's the manager and there's football to play, so that's what we need to see again. We're not going to be the best side at this level, so we need to get enough of a footing to compete for those top 6 places.

We saw it against Reading. Again with Vic and Dion leading the charge. Rotherham was the absolute antithesis of all of that.

Somehow that back line needs shoring up. Sheehan (or someone) needs to grab the ball in the middle and dictate. Thommo, Schon and others need to run the length of the pitch over and over again. The forwards need to press like nutters for an hour. Everyone needs to take risks in the final third when there's an opening.

We've sold Dion and bought a £1m player, so Evatt is absolutely not going anywhere. He is the only sacred cow the board has at the moment.

But that's about the manager. If a player comes into a shitshow and still works their bollocks of and grabs goals then they should get the benefit of the doubt.
