Who's the Rioch to Evatt's Neal?

Post by Dave Sutton's barnet » Wed Jan 22, 2025 12:01 pm

Ludicrously, quite possibly unattainably high bar – but that's where we're at and we're allowed to dream. Ian Evatt turned the ship round, who can send it steaming onwards?

I've added some names (largely from latest odds, for what they're worth) and a poll - but really it's a talking shop. Who would you like?

Where's Rooney on your list? He just needs a chance...

He's right there! Next to Steve G and Gary Neville...

Oh, lord. Steve G with Rooney as his assistant. Gary as DoF.

The dream.

How fast are we going to have to chant "Steve Schumacher's Super White Army" to fit all the syllables in?

I suspect it would be "Schumacherrrrrrr's superwhite army" but one never knows

I haven't voted yet but I think Schuey is the obvious candidate, assuming the interview goes well.

• Has experience of promotion
from this division (and how - with 101pts on a lower budget)

Didn't shit the bed in the Champo
(Plymouth were 16th when he left in December; he improved Stoke from 19th to 17th that season and they were 13th when they sacked him to hire someone they also sacked after three months with them 19th again)

• Can play with a back three or a back four
(Plymouth did both)

• Can work with a DoF type
(Plymouth had Neil Dewsnip, Stoke had Jonny Wallets)

• Has a great record with loanees
(they fired Plymouth to promotion and some stuck around for longer)

• Is available
(and local, by birth)

The problem might be if he wants a Champo job but you imagine we'd also tick a lot of boxes for him, too. There's definite 'headroom' to improve, both with the existing squad and with the club infrastructure.

He might be in need of new Giggs, but we're not.

I think it might be in our favour that there are unlikely to be any Championship jobs available in the next few months. Maybe Cardiff and maaaybe Derby, but that looks about it.

"Stevie Schu's superwhite army?" :conf: Although it does make him sound like a poor man's K-Pop artist :D

Give him a contract with a release clause that if he doesn't get us promoted and a Champo team comes calling then he can bugger off? :conf:

Yep. Reading the bottom half from the bottom up, Plymouth, Luton, Hull, Cardiff, Stoke, Preston, Millwall, Oxford and Coventry have all mae a managerial change this season; the only exceptions are Pompey (22nd), Derby (20th) and Swansea (15th), of whom only Derby might seriously consider a change.

As long as the new guy isn't the Charlie Wright to Evatt's John Mcgovern, I'm reasonably open to a number of those mentioned. Neil Harris would be uninspiring but would stop us getting bullied I suspect. I'd love to see Schumacher or Lowe; Liam Richardson won 2 in 24 in his last job, so that's an appointment that would worry me.

Mat Sadler is young and doing a great job at Walsall

Apparently Nixon has linked us to Steve Evans.

If you'll excuse me I'm off to stand guard over Snake Pass with a harpoon.

Agree with all that. Richardson took Wigan up but shat the bed twice in the next division.
