We have 7 days until the window closes.
Clock is very much ticking.

Indeed. I hope they aren’t making a mess of it. Most important thing is getting the right man in but I do think it needs to be by Thursday at latest.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 3:41 pmWe have 7 days until the window closes.

I've not the least clue what's going on behind the scenes.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 3:43 pmIndeed. I hope they aren’t making a mess of it. Most important thing is getting the right man in but I do think it needs to be by Thursday at latest.
It's Markham's first time in the technical driving seat for a selection, so we'll see how smooth the process is. Sharon will probably know the type of person she wants.
Hopefully they're through the interview stage and onto contracts. If it's Schumacher then a couple of his staff are contracted elsewhere at the minute, but nothing that's a real problem.
If they've chosen their man then they can also be getting the initial work done on transfers in the background.

Don’t think many do know. Long way from the day where you could just ask the chairman who he was appointing and he’d tell you!GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 3:50 pmI've not the least clue what's going on behind the scenes.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 3:43 pmIndeed. Yeah, thought we might be in the market here.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 7:58 pmI was worried Kion Etete might show up and join the queue to the physio room. Fits our usual recruitment profile.

He has played 45 minutes of football this season. In the FA cup. I’m not sure there is a word for this. Under under under whelmed?GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2025 9:51 amYeah, thought we might be in the market here.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 7:58 pmI was worried Kion Etete might show up and join the queue to the physio room. I feel like what we need in a target man is someone who is 31 knows the game will do a job and do it well but happy to do it as and when. Someone other strikers will learn from but who is a bit less past it than Jerome was.
I’m very sceptical in signing 23 year old target men who have spent most their career in kids football or injured. These types don’t really mature till they are mid to late twenties.

. .
Not exactly a goal machine, even in his League Two loan - but hey, folks wanted "a big mon up top" and he would certainly be that.... unless he's lying down in the physio room...

I suspect with some bedevilment, you are being somewhat narrow in your view of "what folks wanted."
I agree the spec might have been a bit shy on detail, though

I think any concerns about signing Kion are valid, but Witcoop has deep contacts at Cardiff and we should take this link seriously IMO - though DSB may know better.

If we’re signing players now, today, then the new manager must have agreed to this.

Ha! Yeah, just taking the piss. I think personally I'd still rather see a pacy striker to push the defence back, than a powerful one they can push up on. Hard to tell though till we know the new man's plans.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2025 10:02 amI suspect with some bedevilment, you are being somewhat narrow in your view of "what folks wanted."I agree the spec might have been a bit shy on detail, though
Darren was a reliable journalist, but note that it's a year since he deserted the smouldering remains of the daily newspapers and hopped over the fence into being a PR/agent. So clearly he's still got a huge contacts book, but he now has different motives – although that doesn't mean he won't tweet honestly, including about things that aren't in his orbit. I have no idea if Etete is affiliated to Darren.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2025 10:04 amI think any concerns about signing Kion are valid, but Witcoop has deep contacts at Cardiff and we should take this link seriously IMO - though DSB may know better.

Seems the link originates with Cardiff's local plod, making it even more likely to be right.

Injury prone and a terrible goalscoring record. Perfect.

I guess this is prime Didier Drogba to Nlundulu’s ‘next Ivan Toney’. Exciting.

I'm concerned fans will see we're signing a 6'6" lad and assume he's a traditional target man, which he's very much not.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2025 10:02 amI suspect with some bedevilment, you are being somewhat narrow in your view of "what folks wanted."I agree the spec might have been a bit shy on detail, though

So long as the manager knows what he's getting it's less of an issue.

Ilesy's running the Etete story but going arm's-length - Wanderers "said to be leading the chase", "Sources in South Wales claim", "It now remains to be seen whether transfer targets which were established under the previous manager will be picked up by the next man in charge."

What does he do if he's not a target man? Retrieve things from high shelves? Save cats stuck up trees? Look beyond the blue horizon for incoming ships?GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2025 10:47 amI'm concerned fans will see we're signing a 6'6" lad and assume he's a traditional target man, which he's very much not.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2025 10:02 amI suspect with some bedevilment, you are being somewhat narrow in your view of "what folks wanted."I agree the spec might have been a bit shy on detail, though

Seriously though, how would you define him? I wouldn't know him if I were stood beside him, although I'd shiver in the shadow as he blocked out the sun.

Can he shoot, head the ball and bully defenders? No point wasting money if a new signing isn't better than what we have just to keep the fans happy. That said, none come with guarantees, so it's a bit "lucky dip" and also hope for the best that he'll fit in with the lads. Like the man said, "Nothing propinks like propinquity "

At least it looks like he knows how to pull his socks up...
