Signed a two year contract extension with Cardiff, so looks like this is just a short term thing.

Odd one this. Schuey has just been quoted by Iles as saying that he's not yet fit enough to play, but they hope to have him involved in the next 3 months. My immediate response to that is....... WTAF??!!

Hopefully he can play his part and like the wonderful Fabien DeFreitas, if he just fires us up from the 80-oddth minute, I'm sure he'll be remembered fondly!The_Gun wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 12:19 pmLots of buddies in the sick bay to hang out with.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 12:17 pmThey heard we had a lot of expertise in hamstring recoveries...

Maybe that's the manager setting his stall out early that he is not his pick. Which we all know, but hopefully not the start of a power struggle in the recruitment department.
It's this kind of shit that has people complain about Markham though. What the F are we doing signing players on loan who cannot feature. Eating up budget, eating up squad places and eating up the man hours of the medical team.
If a loan player is not ready to go, just move on FFS

genuine question Ghost.. Looking at where Cardiff are in the table and how much they've struggled recently (I know they've had an upturn) - If we were to play them 46 times, who do you think would come out on top?GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 12:29 pmYeah, that's a funny one. Hard to know whether it's asset protection or because the coaching staff rate him.
He's undoubtedly talented.

By the end of the season I hope we'll be in a position for us all to fancy our chances against a good number of Championship sides.

I reckon it would be pretty even, with them just about edging it. I do wonder if this guy can't get near their team and is constantly injured, why he's attractive to us, who aren't that far behind them man for man.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 12:39 pmThem, as things stand.boltonboris wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 12:36 pmgenuine question Ghost.. I know different teams have different needs, but I just can't get my head around why we'd bring him when he's not ready to go and there's little chance of us keeping him, should he not be a shit permacrock

Given that it’s not just a question of getting fit it is also a question of match fitness, sharpness and then finding form it does feel an odd time to sign a big striker who has let’s face it barely ripped up any trees in their career and who is young, when they are injured.
Schumacher’s comments seem honest and simply about setting expectations but you do wonder whether had he been in place a couple of weeks earlier whether he might have pulled the plug on this deal and found someone else?

As Schumacher has said, this will basically be about how much he can get out of the group until the end of the season.
Etete gives him a different option up top, but maintains his desire for technical players all over the pitch. Not many of that type about and certainly not on short notice.
When I suggested he might show up here I said I "feared" we'd add him and it's for the reasons everyone is now going over. Charles was reliably fit, Etete isn't. Etete needs work.
What he is is a talented, athletic giant who can get you up the pitch. So we hope Schumacher is lucky and kick on until summer - at which point he can get some proper work done.
I suspect we're not done yet in the market, though.

Etete also takes up the final squad place, as vacated by Dion. So any (overage outfield) ins would have to trigger an out each.

Schumacher hasn’t picked him. So we have no idea whether he would have done or not. But Id say there is a reasonable chance the answer to that is not. We will never know.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 12:55 pmAs Schumacher has said, this will basically be about how much he can get out of the group until the end of the season.

I’m assuming he’s been consulted as he said but might be quite tricky or risky to stop a deal already in motion before you’ve signed a contract.

My gut feel is Randell will go. Talk that Swansea want Sheehan which if it happens would free up presumably both a space and more significantly cash?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 12:57 pmEtete also takes up the final squad place, as vacated by Dion. Would 'we' be happy to see Josh leave? How would the balance of the team be affected do you think?

I wouldn't be overjoyed because he's a good player, but it depends how much they offersonicthewhite wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 1:02 pmWould 'we' be happy to see Josh leave? How would the balance of the team be affected do you think?

JDC for me. Stays fit and is versatile (LWB, LB, RB, RCH). The others can go.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 11:25 amThat was an interesting part of that podcast. Ilesy hinted that there is a contract he thinks has been extended but not announced, but said he didn't think it was Santos, and that other players like Gethin and Baxter "had some thinking to do" (or similar - not verbatim quote).BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 9:58 amSantos is out of contract in the summer isn’t he? What happens there. Marc Iles doesn’t believe he’s been offered anything yet and also notes he will be looking for one more big pay day. No doubt some of our players will be of interest to others with deeper pockets too if we do well for the rest of the season.
Now, considering the only other lapsing contracts bar those three are Coleman, Dacres-Cogley, Arfield and Randell Williams, are we expecting new terms for JDC? And frankly do we think he's a tier-two player, if we get there?
