Schumacher’s comments seem honest and simply about setting expectations but you do wonder whether had he been in place a couple of weeks earlier whether he might have pulled the plug on this deal and found someone else?
He did state he's been training with the lads, so he may be nearer than it seems.

Would 'we' be happy to see Josh leave? How would the balance of the team be affected do you think?
I wouldn't be overjoyed because he's a good player, but it depends how much they offer
Ideally we’d not be selling any main players now but simply because it’s Swansea we will have to be alert to it if there is anything in it as I suspect there is a chance the player would want to go.

I’d be gutted. But needs must if the money is right for the club.

We’d be a worse team without him in it.

Sheehan is brilliant. Swansea just picked up a few million quid for Grimes. We should be holding out for a decent wedge of that if we sell.

He's on a deal to 2027 and he recently captained his country. If we sold for £1m late in a Jan window, which we probably would, I'd be annoyed. Not that £1m is bad money for a player of his age with his injury record, but we should be pushing Swans to cough up a better section of the Grimes fee.

I guess that's why they've let it be known they're also eyeing Connell.

£1m with no time to replace him would be a bad deal for us. Double that figure and I think we’d have to do it.

Let's play Daft Fun Maths.

If you knew we could replace Sheehan with Connell – who's six years younger - would you be happy?

Would you theoretically pay more for Connell than we got for Sheehan?

If so, how much more?

Sheehan staying and Barnsley losing Connell would possibly be the best result of this transfer window for us.

Would we want Connell back and more importantly would he come back?
Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!

And the key to a result is a good :kettle:

Oh, Swans have absolutely leaked it to put pressure on the selling teams to sell low.

I don't think he burnt his bridges. I'd have him back. Not that I'm necessarily advocating selling Sheehan, but I suspect Connell's industry and little bit of devilment may suit Schuey.

Don't think they'd sell to us though.

Presumably Barnsley wouldn’t want to sell Connell to us, and would likely ask for significantly more than we’d get for Sheehan.

I’d also have serious doubts over the player’s appetite to move back here given the reception he’s received from some of the wankers in our fan base.

Think he's worked hard at his defensive game and on a good day makes us tick from 6. Always thought he might better as an 8 or in a 4 man MF. For all the "yeah but look he got tackled," that's somewhat different than he's in the right defensive place at the right time - that's more difficult to count and that's where I think his reading of the game isn't as a natural 6.

I'd be fine if he stays and fine if we got the right sort of cash. Like Dion, he'd go with best wishes.

The last time anyone asked Barnsley about Connell they were told £5m, with a tone of "feck off." So if we sell Sheehan I'm not sure he's an option. Prices do change, as we've seen with Randall, but perhaps not radically enough there.

The natural replacement would be Archie Collins, but he might also be too expensive.

Signed a two year contract extension with Cardiff, so looks like this is just a short term thing.
Yeah, that's a funny one. Hard to know whether it's asset protection or because the coaching staff rate him.

He's undoubtedly talented.
They must be confident they can get £300k off us in the summer regardless of how underwhelming the loan is...

He'd be cheaper in summer if Posh go down, which is pleasingly possible....

Such a weird situation at Posh. They have a load of lads Championship clubs would take in a heartbeat, plus a load of lads who are rough diamonds from non-league. Absolutely zero consistency in quality across the squad.

They go through these phases, but this is the worst they've had it for a while.
