Re: Contract expiry
out of those expiring there’s only Baxter I see who can play higher up. Santos isn’t mentally strong enough. He’ll be back driving for Amazon soon enough.

That Forino contract doesn't half seem like a dropped bollock as things stand.

Same with Tutu, but we have to hope that their early injuries aren't going to be indicative of their entire careers here.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 8:52 pmThat Forino contract doesn't half seem like a dropped bollock as things stand.
We signed a big, heavy centre back with hamstring issues who had averaged 25 starts a season over 3 years in all comps.
We're asking for trouble, but hopefully his surgery cured an underlying issue and he's more resilient going forward. After all, we have such a fabulous injury record here.
It's a bit like Dan. If we were signing him we had to have a plan to protect him. We didn't. Not sure we're learning from previous mistakes.

With Tutu, we only (only!) gave him a two-year contract and I can sort of see the "if he was fit all the time, he wouldn't be at this level" argument.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 9:01 pmSame with Tutu, but we have to hope that their early injuries aren't going to be indicative of their entire careers here.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 8:52 pmThat Forino contract doesn't half seem like a dropped bollock as things stand.

Not sure I see the same with Forino. There's some sort of player in there but in his 395 minutes thus far I didn't witness genius or even Raw Diamond stuff. Not terrible, not bad for a freebie, but he's now been out for four months and he's on a three-year contract, for which he owes his agent a bloody good birthday card.
As for Dan... well, that may be, among a very strong field, Evatt's most hubristic moment. We had six months' free go in which he showed flashes but underwhelmed. Saints clearly weren't arsed. And yet we paid £300,000 for him. More dropped bollocks than a boarding-school dormitory.

Re: Contract expiry
I think Forino was signed with the view he's a rare type and we saw his potential to be a long term successor to Santos, or maybe just cover for when he misses games.
Big, strong, quick and alright with the ball...but more aggressive than Rico.
I don't think we're after genius as much as his physical traits.
However, his size and pace are exactly what stress his hamstrings.

I was pitch level for Forino's most recent game for us and saw him very close up (Arsenal four months ago). He didn't look anything special.

Hard for him to look good against Arsenal to be fair.TonyDomingos wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 9:27 pmI was pitch level for Forino's most recent game for us and saw him very close up (Arsenal four months ago). He didn't look anything special.
The N'lundulu signing must be the biggest failure of the recent transfer business. Not only did he show he wasn't capable but we also spent a considerable sum on him. It's almost as if the business side of the football said he'd be a good acquisition so we signed him with the hopes of making a profit, rather than looking at his actual footballing ability relative to the current squad.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 9:09 pmWith Tutu, we only (only!) gave him a two-year contract and I can sort of see the "if he was fit all the time, he wouldn't be at this level" argument.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 9:01 pmSame with Tutu, but we have to hope that their early injuries aren't going to be indicative of their entire careers here.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 8:52 pmThat Forino contract doesn't half seem like a dropped bollock as things stand.

Forino, may just be a case of we've got an underperforming medical team or we're damaging players in training as we're having so many injury issues like hamstrings.
It very much looks like we're clearing house for a second half of the season push. I get the feeling we'll likely settle for loanees and do things on the cheap. I'm hoping we don't end up with another Craig Dawson style situation where come the end of the season he's returned to his parent club before our season is actually finished.
I certainly don't get the impression the manager and staff are doing what's best for the team. Whether they're doing what's best for the club is another matter, but its just like our footballing philosophy at the moment, sideways and backwards.

Yeah, none of our players would look good compared to Arsenal. But, you might expect a good player to look ok against them. Forino looked like a standard L1 player.

Re: Contract expiry
Craig Dawson was on a month-by-month loan which was extended to the maximum 93 days. Almost all loans between EFL/EPL clubs now are window-to-window, six- or 12-month loans.
I’m far more worried that there’s more Shoretires than Maghomas. But given the overall chances of Project Evatt succeeding, I still think loans present a lower risk of chucking good money after bad.

Just shore-up the defence and get a centre forward in. It'll be reet.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 11:10 pmI’m far more worried that there’s more Shoretires than Maghomas. Not much "bad money" has gone out.
We should have signed Deji and a #10 in the summer.
Evatt got his #10. He needs that defender.
Assuming he gets his loanee you're allowing up to half a million quid to fix the defence. You could have avoided that spending if you'd signed the blindingly obvious free in the summer, now you can't.
Wiredu, Taylor, Happe, whoever. Get the lad who is fit and available.
Let the players trust what's behind them and offer them the movement of Sheehan and Randall as outs. It won't fix everything, but it'll let you play football well enough to make the play-offs.
Since Huddersfield we've won just over 50% of our games. For a shite team to do that requires a lot of individual quality. Fix the obvious holes and if a new man shows up in the summer he'll have a lot to work with.
If Evatt doesn't sign a defender, and instead trusts to the fitness of his group, may his god help him.

I reckon all of those lapsing this year won't be here next season. And I also reckon some of those lapsing in 2026 will be moved on as well as Schumacher will want as much flexibility as possible to build a squad to his liking.

On his podcast Iles suggested at least one 2025 lapser has already extended, and deduction suggests it's Dacres-Cogley. (He said Baxter, Santos and Gethin might have some thinking to do, and it's presumably not Coleman, who he said last night he expects to see out his contract then leave.)sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 4:58 pmI reckon all of those lapsing this year won't be here next season. To pile supposition on conjecture: maybe Randell heard JDC had been offered an extension, inquired about one for himself and was told he wouldn't get one, and that's where the cob-on came from?

If it happened before he came here then fair enough, but also wouldn't be shocked if Schumacher renewed him.
