I wouldn't be against it. The issue has always been that he's probably not creative enough to be first-choice RWB; we've tried to address that with Kane Wilson then JOT.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 1:57 pmIt's the same reason I'd probably keep Cogley, were it up to me. Ultra-reliable squad player.
If Schumacher wants the ability to play a back four, you imagine JDC would be a promising overlapping RB. (It'd usually be a decoy run because his final-third completion is perhaps best described as haphazard, but the opponents don't need to know that.) And as Ghost said, the new gaffer has made a point of praising him.

Cogley has been a superb signing. Cost nowt and on low wages, he got in the team of the year and has been constantly available. He should have been an alternative to a more creative player, but it's been an exceptional free transfer.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 2:11 pmI wouldn't be against it. He's far from perfect, but he's the best athlete we've had at the club in years.
He is also really good in terms of his tactical awareness. He's almost always where he should be positionally.
Managers love the type. Do anything you ask, apply your tactics on the field and run themselves into the ground for you.

I think my point was less that Wembley caused a crash more that it deflected away from what rightly might and should have been a significant end of season inquest as to why we hadn’t gone up and why we’d played so limply when push came to shove in the play offs. A root and branch review if you like. Didn’t happen and I think I wondered at the time if it was systemic to the club and its management team. But no it couldn’t be cos papa John’s trophy…only it was. And we wasted another season maybe two where I suspect without that cup win we probably would not have wasted as long.

Agree with this. One of our better signings. Indeed maybe the best. On a free. Works hard. Not a wing back for me but still always does a job.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 2:18 pmCogley has been a superb signing. I don’t get the hate he attracts from some of our fanbase. I can accept someone saying ‘we might need a better wing back’ but he’s a player that turns up week in week out and gives you something. Not unlike Jones. Both seem to be really disliked but I’d prefer triers over hiders.

Yes and the type of "risk" I'd like to see us take more of, over injury prone players.
He's another late bloomer who barely played into his mid twenties, however he proved himself elsewhere for two seasons and then we picked him up.
He had only shown his stuff in League Two and was 27(?) when we signed him, but he played nearly every game for the previous two seasons.
Next season I'd like us to have a core of around 15-16 outfield players who we might reasonable expect to be able to play 40 games a season if called up. We have at around a dozen now, so it's not a huge stretch.
Conway perhaps gives us another.
Obviously people can pick up unexpected injuries (Lolos, for example), but if you have the core you need to be really unlucky to have a huge crisis. Right now we expect at least one a season.

Wembley was one of the best days of my life. That's an end not a means. It was superb and one of the best things to happen to this club in the past decade plus.
Cogley makes my eyes bleed but he's been a fab signing and absolutely worth his place in the squad. Don't know what goes on behind the scenes but in an ideal world for me we'd let him go if we went up and keep him if not.

Cogley remains one of the most creative wingbacks in the division, despite the criticism. 6 assists last season and 4 so far this. We'd like more ability when 1-on-1 with a defender, but he's not getting a nosebleed up there.
The issue on that side hasn't been Cogs, it's been Tutu. He looks like a quality outlet when he gets on the pitch, but we took a risk on his fitness and got bitten. I'd love to see him stay fit. You'd fancy a fully fit Tutu to get into double figures for assists over a season.

Nearly 1300 tickets sold out already for Wrexham away in the cup.
I'd like to pretend our fans are hot for some Wembley action, but in reality the PR work around that football club has just been phenomenal.

You could spin it as renewed vigour for the club after the appointment of a new manager.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 11:15 amNearly 1300 tickets sold out already for Wrexham away in the cup.

I think we all know it's the "Hollywood FC" effect and people knowing it'll be tough to get tickets for the league game. No doubt binning Evatt has enthused the supporters a bit more, but I think it would have sold out regardless.

And a ground many of them haven't been to yet. First visit since Thatcher was in power. I know we go back again soon after but that might sell out (and is on telly).jmjhb wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 11:39 amYou could spin it as renewed vigour for the club after the appointment of a new manager.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 11:15 amNearly 1300 tickets sold out already for Wrexham away in the cup.

Can't blame folk for wanting to do Disneyland on the cheap.
I was going to reminisce about our last game at the Racecourse, but I'll save it for the match thread!

I'd be surprised if even 1 of those 1300 tickets were sold as a result of the 'glamorous' opposition. New ground for a whole generation of fans, limited chances to get tickets for the upcoming league game, renewed fervour after a change of manager and the later rounds of a competition with a Wembley prize.
Whatever, it's darned impressive to sell out inside 10 minutes.

Agree with all of this, its nothing to do with them being Hollywood FC.Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 3:20 pmI'd be surprised if even 1 of those 1300 tickets were sold as a result of the 'glamorous' opposition. I think if this was away to Shrewsbury instead, they wouldn't have gone quite as quickly...

It’s cos it’s Wrexham mainly. Other factors too but if game was Mansfield doubt they’d have gone so quickly.
