There is a lot to improve but its a funny game. Confidence is crucial If you dont have it, you hide, get rid of the ball quickly and to anywhere, you cant control it, a simple pass is misplaced etc.. I believe today, because of the recent loses, we lacked confidence. A couple lucky wins and it confidence comes back.

Not too concerned about how we looked today. This 3 points and another on the weekend will get us back playing like what these players are capable of.

Notwithstanding, even at our best we are not a top L1 team at the moment given current players. Schuey has a lot to fix, but if Dempsay and Santos can get back to match sharpness for the last 6 or so games, we will be better and can finish strong.

I don’t agree that it was a bad performance. Wigan pressed and ran hard in the first half making it a scrap. That happens in derby games, but I did think it looked unsustainable for them and I think their plan was to nick one when they were at full pelt and then spend the rest of the game in their own third

But when that didn’t happen and they tired, we took over. We controlled the ball, probed and eventually got our reward. Despite some pretty let’s say ‘agricultural’ play from the hosts.

I don't really care about the performance it's the win that matters (the players just lack confidence after the last 3 games) - I thought that we just about deserved the win and last night the players scrapped and showed some spirit and bottle.

Forino was excellent all night (not just for the goal), he looked like a leader on the pitch. Great to beat those scruffy, classless Wigan tossers.

Forino posted this picture. Look at Cogz.

While Forino was bang up for it, I suspect it was planned among the players - "If we score, let's go down the away end". And boy did they enjoy it. They knew. They knew.

How tinpot & classless was the Wigan stadium announcer before the game, I don't think that I've ever heard anything like that done before - anyway it came back to haunt him.

Great pic and great vids. The performance doesn't matter just the result. That reaction by the players means everything. No one can say that they don't care as that video obviously shows that they do.
Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!

And the key to a result is a good :kettle:

I believe Randall was straight down the tunnel last night and didn't join in the celebrations

Feck him. If he's struggling to get his head around the fact we're not really accepting of his style, or lack of physicality then that's his problem, not ours.

As the saying goes "put your big girl pants on and get on with it"

(I actually think he's been better the last 2 games, but far from happy with his contribution so far)

You can say we scrapped in a local derby. But Wigan are poor and had little threat. That performance against a half way decent side with some threat going forwards and I think we are staring down a defeat.

The problem is we need to combine the ability to defend and scrap a clean sheet with some quality going forwards and we struggle to do both. Blackpool we played much better going forwards but were awful at the back. Yesterday we kept the clean sheet but be honest we created very very little. Doesn’t matter like if you win 1-0 on a regular basis like that but not sure I’m convinced we will do.

It was brilliant result and that’s all ultimately that matters. I hope it’s the springboard for a great run in I still just do not see us having the quality and balance to really make it count.

I do actually feel for Randall - very much Evatt's last fling, expensively purchased, not really what we needed, then they flicked the gaffer a fortnight later

However, if any club offered anywhere close to what we paid I expect we'd rip their arm off at the shoulder

Worth saying that many including myself have been critical of Thomasson but again last night he did not have the best game yet ran himself visibly into the ground. He couldn’t move by the end. And think his running to exhaustion won us the corner we scored from iirc.

I don’t think all our players do that. Or would do that. And I think it’s easy to trot out the line that they don’t care or are lazy and I probably fall into that sometimes. And some I think genuinely are a bit too soft.

But Thommo is one of the few players I think you can say that is never the case for. Good or bad game or form he absolutely always leaves everything out on the pitch.

That’s why I like him. Flaws and all. We need a few more like him for me. Maybe with a little more experience and calmer heads.

Certainly isn't helping Randall settle when he gets sarcastically clapped/jeered as he's subbed.

To the day I die I will never understand the neanderthal mentality of not supporting your own and wanting them to do well, rather than pouncing on them at every opportunity (a la Santos et al)....

There's 100% a player in there who can be very useful to us, we just need to encourage it out rather than childishly bully it back into him....

Agree, he and the back 4 got both the clean sheet and goal.

I agree, but he needs to get on with it as well. McAtee hasn't had a stellar season and has faced criticism (some justified), but he's buckled down and you can see how hard he wants it. Randall I don't think doesn't care, but he comes across quite half hearted a lot of the time. If nothing else he needs to just get stuck in and look like he wants to be a part of this. Hopefully the summer gives Schumacher a chance to find a role for him and make the bigger changes I'm sure he wants. But as a player you don't skulk off down the tunnel. I get he might not have wanted to jump up and down with the fans, but you are on that pitch with your teammates. If he's to have a career he needs to buy into where he is and accept sometimes it might be a bit shit personally. As difficult as that can be on a human level.

A lot has happened at the club in the last few weeks. I don't want to make excuses for Randall. He's had a whirlwind time since he joined and it's probably affected him. Posh fans did say that he doesn't do the muck n nettles stuff very well and is most definitely a "fancy dan" type of player. However, if SS decides he's a player he wants for next season (or one they can't move on) then like a lot of the squad he will no doubt benefit from a really good pre-season. Hopefully we'd see the player that he's supposed to be next season.
