My concern is that Darby set us up not to conceded and it was working, okay only two games, but Schumacher feels a lot like scouse Evatt right now.

I'm not one for booing the team, but I think days like today are justified. People are paying for effort levels, capitulating to a team like Barnsley in that manner deserves the criticism thats coming. We knew it was going to be a tough game today and the performance was so pathetic it warrants it.
That does seem to be the overriding feeling. Sideways and backwards passing. Lots of possession and inability to score. Unable to put a shift in when it counts. Feels like the players have gone into their shell and are struggling with the same Evatt-isms.
I firmly suspect that this set of players do not want a repeat of the play off final last season. The effort level shows as much. Too much damage was done by that Oxford game and the players need to want it. I can't see that at all, not from this lot.

I dunno we’ve setup to be hard to beat at Burton for example and dug put a win there, similar at Wigan and away at Wrexham.
I suspect that the issue is the players need the desire to do it every week and this lot don’t have that. Schumacher enjoyed a bounce on taking the reins too but the same patterns surfaced and I’m pretty sure would have for Darby too.
Like I spent two seasons saying it’s systemic and that will take time to fix.

Re: Yorkshire Relish. Away to Barnsley Sat Apr 12th 3-0'clock.
I'd like to know whether the players are totally ignoring Schumacher instructions & tactics or perhaps he's given up for this season and is concentrating on planning for next season and he's just letting them play how they are used to.
Something isn't right & the manager needs to come out and blast the players attitude big time. The fans need some hope for next season and know that the manager can see the same issues as the fans see week in week out and that he can & will do something about it - because we know he needs time to bring in his own players but I highly doubt that he will have the funds to bring in the 10-12 players required to have a complete new team.
I'm sure that no one is blaming SS or having a go at SS and everyone knows that the players are weak as piss and are Evatt's, but this is currently relegation form 5 losses in 7 games so I think that its probably justified for fans to want SS to come out and tell it as it is.

I think we set up to counter v Brum, too. It's gawdawful many times we've done possession this season. What we need is a plan A.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat Apr 12, 2025 5:17 pmI dunno we’ve setup to be hard to beat at Burton for example and dug put a win there, similar at Wigan and away at Wrexham.

The great news for Schuey is he doesn't have to give the same presser as Tuesday.

By the way I'd have Barnsley's team over ours all day long.
Humphreys, Connell, Jalo etc. and one or two others are streets ahead of anything we have, in both quality, physicality, attitude, desire, work rate, just simply playing football.
Our players are an utter disgrace, we have a team of weak, soft as shite bottle merchants.

They looked good today but are 11th so can’t exactly be problem free. On paper that side should be top 5.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Sat Apr 12, 2025 5:35 pmBy the way I'd have Barnsley's team over ours all day long.

If we can get money for any of our midfielders, I wouldn’t be keeping any of them, Morley perhaps, but that’s it. Sheehan has been a huge part of the problem for me and I just don’t want to see him at the club next season. Same with Tomo now, although I love the shift he puts in, we really should have taken the offer from Bristol when he was at the top of his game.
We haven’t used the loan system well enough this season and our signings have been relatively poor. I’m hoping that can be laid at the door of Evatt and Markham and that future recruitment will be much more balanced. Onwards and hopefully upwards in 25/26.

Uma mesa para um, faz favor. Obrigado.

Agreed. The same argument can be laid at Barnsleys squad. Except that they turned up today.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat Apr 12, 2025 5:37 pmThey looked good today but are 11th so can’t exactly be problem free. We need the performance levels that we saw at Birmingham. We got nowhere near that. Barnsley haven't done that all season either. Even if we were to bring in those Barnsley standouts we would need them consistently putting in top performances. I suspect we'd get a similar season to what we've had.

Stating the obvious. A terrible performance. The score reflects the game. Playoffs now just a dream although we still have a chance. Dont want it. Schuey's main job now is to build a better squad. Insane says 14-15 new players, I say we need 8 who are starters next season. The other starters from this squad would be Baxter, Forino and Collins... and please, sell Sheehan. Not what we need in a L1 midfield. Today was as bad as I have ever seen him... he just abandoned his teammates. Unforgivable.

Jalo is 19 and does probably show how massively we’ve overrated our players.Mar wrote: ↑Sat Apr 12, 2025 5:49 pmAgreed. The same argument can be laid at Barnsleys squad. I recall the claim that santos was the best centre half in this league which was utterly ridiculous. Too many have been overrated by Evatt and co and some of our fans.
I don’t think we’ve got nearly enough players you could say might have a chance at the level above. Most are I think lucky to be at a big club in league one.

Schumacher says it took us half an hour to make a tackle. Whatever is going on at least he tells it as it is unlike the last bloke…..
If he is given the chance to properly clear this out and sign proper replacements I do feel next season could be good. After all he’s done precisely this at Plymouth take a side that missed the play offs and won the league the next year.
In his BBC interview he says ‘4 games to go for the players to show what they are about - it looks like we are going to need a shake up if possible’.
Aye. Again in defeat Schumacher impresses me. No complaints with him at all.
Everything wrong is the players.

It will depend on how many new players he can bring in and also how many of these spineless cowards he can shift out. I'm sure that he will not have inherited a team previously with such a lack of physicality, pace, firepower & leadersBWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat Apr 12, 2025 6:15 pmSchumacher says it took us half an hour to make a tackle. I'm not sure we get a huge clear out. How many are out of contract that aren't loans? About 4?BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat Apr 12, 2025 6:15 pmSchumacher says it took us half an hour to make a tackle. Whatever is going on at least he tells it as it is unlike the last bloke…..

The issue is the summer and next season. I suspect Sharon is going to have to write cheques to move them out. And it’s her own fault. We’ve taken players incapable of delivering what’s required for too much money. So now will have to pay them off - or make it clear they aren’t wanted and hope they trudge off somewhere.
It’s a big job but like I say he’s done it before.

One that can't be denied: Barnsley were whanging balls fifty/sixty yards and hitting their forward players every time. We can't hit one of ours from ten feet with a throw in. As for shots....
Their passing game had to be admired. They simply outclassed us. Hands up from me. Well done to the Tykes.

I think possibly, you might be underestimating our financial clout. And I know you want to blame "everything." We aren't backed in Brum territory, I doubt we're going to buy it. Hopefully he comes good.

My worry re Schumacher is if he can see how lightweight our midfield/team are, how come Matete hasn't been able to get a start?

We're all about talk and what-if's etc, but learning nothing. The goals scored against us aren't sensational, mainly the result of the opposition having more space and freedom than Dartmoor ponies. We're just fooling ourselves we're better than we actually are at one thing and that's scoring goals and winning matches. We need to wake up and stop making excuses.
