A thoroughbred. Took games at a canter. Even in the rein. Still, we shouldn’t regret it furlong.

At least we know managerially that they can respond to both the carrot and the stick.TonyDomingos wrote: ↑Wed Jun 04, 2025 11:22 amWorthy4England wrote: ↑Wed Jun 04, 2025 11:01 amIt's the donkeys I'm worried about!

Anyway, back to the football. I reckon the battle to win the league will be a two horse race and we'll be jockeying for a play off place. Shuey will need to stirrup the players otherwise he's in for the high jump.

Let’s worry about that when it comes, important to not put the cart before the horse. Could be barely worth mentioning given the source has 41 Twitter followers but it’s a new name;
“ Stockport, Blackpool and Hibernian are all trying to sign Manchester United youngster Ethan Williams on loan. Bolton and Leyton Orient both had approaches rejected.”
EDIT and as soon as I type that, a genuine source chips in (but doesn’t mention us)

Looks like Rico is Swansea-bound. They finished 11th last season; 7 points from the play-offs. Hopefully, a good move for him.

Iles says we have rivals for Matty Jacob (who would probably be a permanent transfer) and that we never made a firm offer for Ibrahim, who’s just joined Plymouth.

As far as I know it hasn’t been made public but I would say Mon 30 June. It’s usually early July, they’ve had enough time off and there’s a lot of new stuff to learn.
First league games are weekend of 1st August, and our first confirmed friendly is Tue 15 July - but as that’s Barrow we may well have some local warm-ups first. We don’t yet know how Schuey structures his pre-season but most clubs get the motor running with some easier fixtures against hosts glad to have them.
One other thing - some clubs make players report at the end of the previous week for what used to be a weigh-in and presumably now involves much more scientific measurement. Fairly sure we did this under Evatt but as I say there’s a new sheriff in town so we’re all learning as we go along.

No signings yet? I feel Pru’s transfer threads are always the worst.
Haha.

Dickinson confirmed as head of recruitment reporting to Harkin directly. Does feel like there is a rapid professionalisation of the football side of the club. I hope it works but to me it feels very welcome after the last few years.

Yeah it’s good, I think. Under the DoF system those folks should report to him. Helps that Schuey knows Jimmy D, has worked well with him; but he’s our employee not Schuey’s. If the head coach were to leave - by his choice or ours - there’s continuity.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Jun 05, 2025 10:30 amDickinson confirmed as head of recruitment reporting to Harkin directly. This will never ever happen and probably shouldn’t anyway but: I would absolutely love to hear these three in honest unfiltered assessment of what they inherited. I was once lucky to hear a very respected elder statesman at United - very hands-on, very beloved - gently tear into some of the more recent signings, off the record; it remains one of my favourite conversations. Of course in that context for me it had the pleasurable aspect of an enemy’s failure, but in this situation the main question is: what next? Actually, in football that’s almost always the main question anyway. Which is what makes summer so weird.

I think the continuity card is overstated. Continuity of a thing working really well is great, continuity of a thing working not so well, like our previous DoF model, maybe less so.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Jun 05, 2025 11:22 amYeah it’s good, I think. Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
One alternative is burning it all to the ground. A generally more sensible option is iteration. If we went up and Schuey was tempted away by, I dunno, Leeds, I wouldn’t want us to have to replace Harkin and Dickinson too.
We either build a complex operation or we’re at risk of another post-Allardyce gutting.
Or would you prefer we abandon the DoF model and build it all round the manager?
