The ones who should be taking medication are those who support a political party of the brain dead whose promises are mere lies.Rayner attended Avondale High School in Stockport. At age 16 she became pregnant, and left school without obtaining any qualifications. She later studied part-time at Stockport College, learning British Sign Language, and gaining a National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) Level 2 in social care.
Latest example, the 3% spending on defence as become another 'ambition' instead of fact.
Still, I suppose the couple of thousand new arrivals over the last couple of days, curtesy of the 'smashed gangs' and 'bolstered security' with starmers French bit on the side, need hotels, food and phones.

Hmmm, you didn't vote for any parties who just outright lied? Like maybe the last few Tory governments? I mean you can point to all the lies over 14 years...you don't seem to have spotted many of 'em...

Labelled May a traitorous liar, Boris, an absolute liar, Truss, not around long enough to actually sober up and Sunak, someone's little pet poodle.
Oh I think I did, they've had their chances, I'd vote for an ostrich now, even with it's head in the sand it would make more sense and be more believable than most.

See, you say that, but, just trying "something different" doesn't necessarily mean better. I'd contend that none of the current parties are "anything too different." They're all broadly neoliberal. Question for you - when we "shrink the state" - who controls the lives of people more? That'd be "the markets" whether global, international or national. The ones that have served the people so well in the last 40 years...
I have fungus on my big toe - it's proving stubborn as I've tried various things to remove it - I could of course, just remove the big toe, and get rid of that particular malady - that'd be different.

We’ve all seen what the politics of populism has done in the USA. It’s only made things far far worse.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Tue Jun 03, 2025 10:58 amSee, you say that, but, just trying "something different" doesn't necessarily mean better. And we’ve seen with Brexit here that very same.
As you say it’s a choice between neoliberalism with some sense of maintaining the state vs neoliberalism with no state - I’d choose the former whilst accepting neither are in anyway the ideal.
The worry I have more broadly is I listen to a lot of people on the left internationally - they all very well describe the problems we face and accurately explain how late stage capitalism is causing them. I haven’t heard many solutions as yet. Which makes me wonder if we are out of new political ideas more generally?

Re: The Politics Thread
So the unelected US bureaucrat, Mathew Whitaker, seems to be telling us we need to spend 5% of GDP on defence as "baseline." Where is Farage and the massed ranks of the indignant, pointing out from the rooftops that we don't take rules from anyone? It's oh so quiet...
Re: The Politics Thread
To be fair, if things are half as bad like quite a few are making out, he's not saying anything a lot are thinking. This island of ours is too underdefended and the consequences of that would make the second world war blitz look amateur, having said that, a lot of the Russian stuff looks poor but with help from China, I suspect it's improving.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Wed Jun 04, 2025 2:32 pmSo the unelected US bureaucrat, Mathew Whitaker, seems to be telling us we need to spend 5% of GDP on defence as "baseline." Extension of free school meals to all on universal credit is some good news in a year that hasn’t contained much!
