But Hull’s not a brilliantly run club, the foreign club could be in the Isle of Man for all we know, and the other League One clubs interested could be Burton and Northampton.TonyDomingos wrote: ↑Thu Jun 05, 2025 6:35 pmHe must have potential: Hull gave him a three year contract last year and the BN reports that three other clubs are interested in signing him.
I’m not hugely down on him and if he comes he’ll get a fair crack from me, but it’s not exactly a hugely exciting first signing. I agree with BWFCi that we don’t need Hollywood signings but there’s a bit about this that doesn’t feel very promising - from the outside.
Pay attention at the back! We've been told not to expect "exciting".![]()
Also, if I was doing the club's comms, I'd advise starting with a couple of "meh" signings - for example, a loan 'keeper and an anonymous full back from 'Ull - before ramping up a bit with a known senior type and then, BOOM!, Jatta rocks up in early July. By that point, we'll all have our berths on HMS P!ss the League.
"BOOM! Jatta" was an attempt at irony. You'd think I'd know by now that it's not easy to get it right on the internet.

We've just done exciting - 198 goals in a calendar year or some such - could it get any more exciting than putting 8 past Manchester United? Just one slight fly in the ointment, didn't get us up.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Jun 05, 2025 7:07 pmJatta is league two. Exciting would be getting someone with experience from the prem. We need boring. 34 clean sheets with 34 scored the other end. 102 points. We can even smatter a quarter of the season playing like fcking Brazil, just so the spreadsheets can go crazy...

Yer man Pete O’Rourke has stated that we’ve won the race for Sam Dalby. Ticks a lot of boxes in terms of what we’ve been missing up top, albeit he’s never really scored goals in England.

“Set to win” rather than “won”. But this would, IMO, be a promising first signing.

Right sort of player in terms of position, attributes and profile I think. Whether he’s actually any good I suspect we need to reserve judgement on.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Jun 06, 2025 5:01 pm“Set to win” rather than “won”. But this would, IMO, be a promising first signing.

All that. The promise comes from the recognition of need, ie a No.9, and from a good goal return last year. Nobody is ever certain to succeed - Anelka, Campo, Okocha and more initially struggled to settle - but as you say, the right sort of player - and on a free.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Jun 06, 2025 5:06 pmRight sort of player in terms of position, attributes and profile I think. That's good news. I was worried we were at risk of becoming Bolton Argyle!

Heh! He’s a six-foot defensive midfielder, turning 30 this year, with title-winning experience, available on a free, whom Schumacher admires. Couldn’t tick many more boxes but hey-ho.TonyDomingos wrote: ↑Fri Jun 06, 2025 8:46 pmDave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Jun 06, 2025 7:31 pmJordan Houghton leaves Plymouth.. but signs for Stevenage

I hear what you're saying, but Plymouth don't appear to have made much of an effort to keep him and he's signed for one of L1's less prestigious teams (no offence intended). That perhaps suggests his best days are behind him?

Decent signing this, I think he will have a point to prove after a very successful spell with with Dundee Utd last season. He was named in the Scottish Premiership team of the season, and it sounds like he has the right attitude - he's certainly got the physicality we need from a No9.
He says that he's improved a lot since his Wrexham days with playing more regularly last season.

Iles tweeting this morning that it's very close.
How we pronouncing his name by the way?
Silent L as in Salmon? So Darby? Dolby, as in Thomas or Dall-bi ?

Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
Slightly worryingly, Pete O’Rourke - usually reliable source of the “set to win” story - has just retweeted his story from yesterday that Derby are “in advanced talks with” Blackpool’s Sonny Carey… despite Carey being unveiled later yesterday by Charlton. You alright, Pete?
Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
Presumably Illes would’ve cross-referenced with someone else before submitting his story?
Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
We need three sides of the stadium singing his name sequentially. Dalby surround sound.

I would presume he’d had encouraging words from inside the club or from Dalby’s agent.
