I'm.not especially excited by this one on the face of it.....but....

Strikers are odd beings. This time last year, we ooh'd and aaah'd as Steve Evans landed Johnson Clarke Harris very early doors. Oops

In January, you could hear the crowing of Huddersfield fans across the Pennines, as they signed two of the best strikers seen in League 1 for a good few years. 4 months later, no one in Huddersfield would have cried if either of them had been released.

Lest we also forget, Schuey managed to get a tune out of the journeyman carthorse that is Sam Cosgrove. He's possibly the only manager in Cosgrove's career to have managed that.

Fingers crossed.........

Good points, Bob.

A few online rumour-mongers of no fixed reputation are saying Huddersfield are sniffing round Owen Goodman, the Palace-at-Wimbledon keeper we’ve been linked with borrowing.

It's all very Shakespeare (Much ado about nowt) right now...with little change in Wanderers world although the rest of this Division seems very carousel inclined. Goal-keepers are decidedly important but scoring goals is a priority and it's all rumours with our dealings about as secret as M.I.5 is a secret service. I'm still seeing the "Manage with what we've got" as our likeliest battle cry. I so want to be wrong...repeat, repeat..... :conf:

Can somebody tidy that up for me please?
A good link discussing possibilities for us. Some great potential players in there.

Wycombe local press saying Wycombe and Huddersfield have started a queue for Nathan Lowe. Didn’t Huddersfield spend big on two strikers in the last window? :conf:

Darren Witcoop, a journo close to Cardiff, says they’ll choose between Des Buckingham and Aaron Ramsey. Evatt said to have dropped out of contention.

Plymouth sources say they’re doing their final interviews this week and Evatt is not in contention.

Oh Ian.

I think I might have mentioned it recently - surely Evatt is going to Notts County?

Apparently he’s been interviewed for both, so unless he got lost on the way to the shops I assume he was interested…

I don't think his ego would allow him to drop so far. At least not yet.

I agree with your psych evaluation, but remember Paul Warne’s at MK and Gareth Ainsworth’s at Gillingham… a job’s a job?
I think he will want the best job possible and Plymouth/Cardiff were good options for him. They seem to have decided he’s not a good option for them, with preferred alternatives including Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere…

Maybe - maybe he still will get them. Maybe he was interviewed. Maybe he was spoken to less formally. I take a lot of these managerial rumours with a pinch of salt. For example Iles who is a good journalist once reported we were going to appoint one of three managers within 24 hours and instead we appointed Parky and at least two of the three were never spoken to. I know that was Ken but still I think mostly these processes don’t unfold as reported.

Different to transfers where more agent involvement means a lot of stuff leaks out.

Sorry mate - with difficulty, if I remember - including hosting the pic somewhere.

Meanwhile… for some reason tweets I post aren’t appearing when I read on my iPhone, but they do when I read on iPad… anyways Pete O’Rourke says Wycombe lead a host of League One clubs chasing Paudie O’Connor - who is IMO the type we need…

Centre back is an interesting area for us this summer. To my mind we have four decent League One central defenders, but if Schuey’s intention is to play with a back four, then I’m struggling to pick out a natural partnership.

I can see why we might be interested in someone like O’Connor, but who would we be bringing him in to play alongside? He’s another 6’3” right footer, so the same physical profile as Toal and Forino.

I’d also suggest that if we’re going to acquire an experienced CB on big money then we’d need to sell one of the incumbents.

Agreed with all that. Forino-Toal is the least worrying CB partnership but largely because I’m not sure Johnston or Forrester work in a four. So that might cause some difficult decisions, up to and including sales.

It’s far from perfect but POC seems to me to be as good a “head it, clear it, rally the troops, defend or die” leader as we can get on a free. If that causes someone else to leave, I can cope with that. It’s possible last season’s colander-like defence might improve with a new GK & 6, but I’d rather also hire someone to come in and kick some ass.

I’d like a reader of the game with a big head it and thou shall not pass type. Bergsson and Whitlow weren’t the biggest pair but had right foot/left foot and whitlow no nonsense vs Gudni a brilliant reader of the game.

How we play sort of dictates a lot as well. Wheater and Beevers were asked to defend the box. They did that well. Outstandingly well. I’d not have been happy if they had to play a high line.

Gudni and Whitlow had to defend against premiership sides less prone to slinging it in from all angles. They may have struggled more in a league one physical battle.

That’s a classic combo - Paul Jones and Sam Allardyce, or Gary Cahill with… Zat Knight? Andy O’Brien? Certainly it worked with John Terry…

But would you roll with Toal or Forino as the big mon? And who, within reason, would be the classy lad?
