Presumably, we'll be making him request a transfer, as paying his deal up would leave us with virtually nothing, given he's got two years left.

I honestly can't think of any other transfer we've done, where our most valuable player has been sold and I've been this ambivalent. I can just imagine the scenes in Huddersfield if he goes there and hasn't scored by Christmas! :-)
We wouldn’t be having to pay his contract off. We received a bid. Decide on whether it’s acceptable enough or not. Say to the player ‘we’ve accepted a bid from X you are free to talk to them’.

Player and agent toddle off to talk to club - discuss terms etc - either take it or don’t. In doing so their contract is terminated here and that’s it.

Of course a player could say ‘they aren’t paying me as much so if you want me to go I need you to make up the difference’ or whatever - but that would be a scenario more like us trying to shift Lolos than this.
The Insane one is correct, as I understand it.

And it's unlikely he* will be taking a wage drop, considering Hart got a big bump to be their CEO, Warne is their manager, Mendez-Laing joined from Derby, etc.

To Bob's ambivalence point - personally, with any player, if they go they go. Some sadden me more than others but they're no longer Wanderers and I transfer my affections. A mate did say today that it's a shame so many formerly popular players are leaving but the key is "formerly". Who's left whose exit would sadden say 90% of fans? Maybe Morley? The Twitter reaction to the possibility of Collins leaving is still 50/50.

*Collins not Insane, although every man has his price and we're therefore open to offers :D

Can we just take a moment to spare a thought for poor Pru? This is his transfer thread and we're just about to sell our only goal scorer, ergo, it's all his fault.

On second thoughts, depending on his replacement, I'll buy the rope, has anyone got a pitchfork or two??

Joining us live now is Tony Domingos, whose January transfer thread caused the sale of Dion Charles to rivals Huddersfield. Tony, do you accept your thread ruined our season, and do you have any advice for Pru on how to survive the backlash?

I stick with what I said end of the season - losing any of these players is hardly a cause for grief. Harkin, Dickinson and Schumacher have a big job on but I think for now I trust them to get it right. It might not be next season. That’s not to make excuses for them - but I just feel it’s too big a job to turn round in one summer. And that is depressing to think about.

But this team failed. It didn’t fail once. It failed repeatedly. And fixing that when you aren’t loaded probably means breaking it up and replacing it. That takes time. And you can only break off what others want to take.

My take is that we have put some players out there as being available even though they are under contract. Collins is one of them hence the leaked interest by a number of clubs. I believe there are other players on that list. Schuey has seen enough, not impressed, and is going to rebuild this team to suit his system and mentality during this window. As someone said, we would not shed a tear if any of the players go. We have to aim higher.

Collins has been about our only player this past 18 months who could conjure a goal out of nothing. If we are letting him go I hope we're properly cashing in and getting above his market value (imo £1.5m). It makes no sense to me to let him go on the cheap.

Got to trust the process. Possibly will be some decisions made that buck the trend. Might be that Schumacher can't shoe horn him into what's needed to get us promoted. There are probably some smarter people on here who might be able to tell me differently but I'm struggling to find a player that mirrored Collins in the Plymouth side he got promoted?

Luxury player that doesn't muck in when we need it. We have a fair few of them. Like you say though, 12 league goals will go when and if he leaves.

Where does that Collins money go? We still need strikers and wingers. Would Ennis fit the bill and work up top with Dalby? Or do we invest in a couple of wingers who are fast and can cross?

£700K won’t go far. Might cover the wages of one or two decent frees or loans. But I guess that it frees up a wage too and a squad space.

I’d hope we wouldn’t let him go for less than £1m. If MK have the money, let em use it.

Look at my 50% success rate.

Do you think it would be any different if I wasn't here?

It's the players' fault.

And the fans'.

I’d be incredibly surprised and disappointed if we let him go for £700k.

He’s not worth £700k. I’m guessing the fee will be around there.

But he’s a lower league 28 year old striker. And we are talking about him going to league two. I know we all watch the transfers up the chain but if it wasn’t Bolton and another league one club I think we’d more realistically assess value of a striker in that situation.

Aye – I don't think he's worth £1m but I'd be playing hardball as he's our top scorer and wanted by a club who is throwing their money about. Of course, could be that Schuey has identified him as got to go to fit his squad plans. In that case, yeah, we don't have that bargaining power.

700k is less than we paid for him so can't see that happening.

Heard there might be an incoming announced today. Also heard another is done but won't be announced just yet.

Are you both mad?!! 😉

1.5m was apparently the going rate for a mard arse midfielder with an occasional bit of flair.

1.5m was also the going rate for a lower division goalscorer in a Championship reserve side who can't win a header to save his life.

Collins is absolutely worth more than both.

All this talk of a moneyball approach 4 years ago and we seem to have got it the wrong way round. Paying top dollar for bobbins and letting quality go for next to nowt.

We paid more than for him and he's improved as a player. £700k is not enough to replace his goal return

We are absolutely terrible at extracting decent fees. A soft touch. Have been for years.

It's no wonder we continue to lose such considerable amounts without improving the team. Let a player go for X, replace him with a worse play for X+ addons and agents fees
