He warms up a bit as it goes along but to begin with he's not really listening to the answers, which is a key component of interviewing.

Sounds like Marty Jacob is off to Reading. So we will have to go plan B for a left back. I guess maybe Taylor was plan B and shifting George out there?

Which George? Johnston or Thomason?

I don't read it as he's joining Reading, just that they have joined the list of clubs interested in signing him so its now us, Reading and a Swiss club.

I like Johnston on the left of a three, but not sure I like him as a left back. I’d want someone quicker and better at crossing ideally.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Jun 15, 2025 4:37 pmJohnston.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sun Jun 15, 2025 4:15 pmUnless Jacob was plan B to Roughan…BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Jun 15, 2025 3:42 pmSounds like Marty Jacob is off to Reading. Same - but there is only so much you can do. Guess we see what happens if Jacob doesn’t come off and what our alternative plan is. I don’t buy roughan as first choice for left back given seemingly he’s best as a cb in a back three.The_Gun wrote: ↑Sun Jun 15, 2025 4:50 pmI like Johnston on the left of a three, but not sure I like him as a left back. Max Conway would surely be given a go should we not be able to bring in a new LB.
Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
I do wonder whether we might be looking to sell Johnston. Hard to see where he fits with Taylor in the building and a new left back seemingly being pursued.

Personally I don't rate Johnston, he's regressed this past year since his injury. I can't see a role for him next season.

I mean maybe but the bits I’ve seen of him I’m not convinced he’s a LB in a back four.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Sun Jun 15, 2025 5:10 pmMax Conway would surely be given a go should we not be able to bring in a new LB.
Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
I don’t know whether he’s any good at defending, but if he is, then he’s got a great profile for a full back. Tall, quick and looks good going forwards.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Jun 15, 2025 5:46 pmI mean maybe but the bits I’ve seen of him I’m not convinced he’s a LB in a back four.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Sun Jun 15, 2025 5:10 pmMax Conway would surely be given a go should we not be able to bring in a new LB.

I'd be astonished if we decided to go into the season with Johnston as first choice left-back.
Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
Me too, SS tried him there last season and he was terrible. More than likely we'll get someone in and it'll be him and Conway to fight it out, with Taylor or Tutu or Schon as potential options in a pinch. Johnston will probably be going if we're playing a back four which seems to be the plan, there's no place for him. But it could be SS wants to play 3 at the back some games, and 4 in others, who knows? If it were me, I'd be letting Johnston go, another CB with him, and bringing in a new CB and a LB and a backup RB to the excellent Cogs.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Sun Jun 15, 2025 7:36 pmI'd be astonished if we decided to go into the season with Johnston as first choice left-back.

Aye. There are still options around.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Sun Jun 15, 2025 7:36 pmI'd be astonished if we decided to go into the season with Johnston as first choice left-back.
Looking at freebies, there's Cohen Bramall, who's absolutely rapid - a team-mate who's faced Mbappe says Bramall is faster - and has played 92 Champo games plus 62 in League One. Attack-minded - he's played a fair few in midfield - he has just left Portsmouth, for whom he signed a short-term deal in January after finding Steve Evans the only Rotherham manager who didn't play him (Paul Warne, Leam Richardson and Matt Taylor all used him far more often than not). Turned 29 in April.
Or there's Brandon Fleming, who left Hull this summer. You remember him. 25 now; they grow up so fast.
A bit more left-field, if you forgive the pun, Schuey could also ask his Everton contacts about Fleetwood's Mackenzie Hunt. Interesting story, this one. Now 23, he was on the Toffees books at age 6 but then his builder dad moved the family to Dubai. They stayed until he was 13 - meaning he got UAE citizenship and has since been called up - when he and his mum moved back so he could rejoin Everton. He stayed there for nine seasons, and in 2023/24 Sean Dyche named on the Premier League bench 17 times, but last summer he turned down a contract extension to get proper football with Charlie Adam's Fleetwood. Flitting between left-back and left midfield, he made 39 League Two appearances and contributed 8 assists, often from set pieces. He's contracted until next summer but presumably affordable.
One more - maybe Fergal knows a decent left-back available in Belgium. There's one rejoicing in the name of Daam Foulon; 26, Anderlecht academy, played in the Belgian top flight for Waasland-Beveren, moved to the Italian top-flight side Benevento, but after they were relegated twice in three seasons he moved home with mid-table Mechelen. Out of contract, can play LB or LM.
