When I think about this collection of random attackers - not going to call them forwards, someone will drop in that they're "wide forwards" or "deep lying forwards," with McAtee and Collins as spearhead, it's probably a backward step from Dapo and Baka. They're that good as part of a unit. Dapo and Baka in 21/22 got 22 league goals between them, Collins and McAtee 23 this season - Collins and McAtee were on the pitch a whole lot longer though. Doesn't really matter whether I like or dislike any of the four of them, they're not "better," and we can live without either, unless someone can work out the best tune from one or both.

Dan told to find pastures new and CMG could follow him;

https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/2 ... rs-summer/
Ilesy also says:

* Charlie Warren “will be given a few weeks in the first team environment before deciding on his next step, which could yet be a loan or a spell in the B Team.”

* “Schumacher has confirmed that he plans to play a different formation than the one he finished last season.”

There is something a bit brutal about a manager saying he’s not seen a player as he was on loan but that he should ‘explore options to leave’ in a public interview.

I don’t of course disagree with the outcome and indeed the conversation needs having - I just don’t know if that needs to be made public like that.

Guess it depends how you view the world. We publish released lists every year, which is generally full of youngsters out of work. I think the ratonale is it might help them get on someone elses books.

By doing this, at least Dan will get a 12 month run-up to try and secure another team.

Based on this, I assume we’re resigned to giving Dan away for nowt. Best case scenario is someone offers him the same wages and we can let him go without having to write off more money.

We don't know how it was handled in the Schumacher-Dan conversation. These things can be done with tact and sensitivity. And everybody knows football is brutal.

Philliskirk on Rioch:
Bruce Rioch was ruthless. And I don’t mean that unkindly. I know his son Greg, who works at Wigan, and we talk about his dad and the way he handled the situation.

He came into Burnden Park, sat me down in his office, and said ‘Tony, you’re not for me.’ And I respected him so much for that. He could have kept me hanging around. I could have sat on the bench or played in the cup games as back-up but I’d had a couple of sticky months and I knew it wasn’t working. I'd loved my three years at Bolton but as a player I sensed I had to move on.

I tell my son (Danny – who plays for AFC Fylde) that you should always play where you are wanted. And can I really complain when you see what Bruce did at Bolton, the success they had? Not a bit.

No issue with Schumacher telling Dan he’s not wanted or that he needs to find himself a move. Perfectly normal. A

Just questioning whether it needed broadcasting in that way. I’m sure they are making people aware of availability through agents etc….

Sounds like Matty Jacob is off to Reading. So we will have to go plan B for a left back. I guess maybe Taylor was plan B and shifting George out there?

I don't read it as he's joining Reading, just that they have joined the list of clubs interested in signing him so its now us, Reading and a Swiss club.
File this under "Oh, I seeeee...":

Matty Jacob's agent is Stephen Hunt, who among other claims to fame (not least almost killing Petr Cech accidentally) happens to be the brother of Reading manager Noel. So that's awkward.

Hunt S. is also the agent of Paudie O'Connor.

Slightly harder with a contracted player - Hull will decide to whom Jacob can speak, depending on fees - but I think we can assume the agent will 'know the market', let's say.

I saw and heard the interview on X yesterday. It's probably still available on iPlayer. You could see Schumacher was being very guarded in his responses while there's still talks ongoing. He sounded like he was going to give CMG a chance to prove himself but then, as politely as he could manage, he said Dan could look elsewhere for his football.

This is one of the issues I have with the whole data based approach. It assumes you have free unfettered access across the market but we know that isn’t really how it works. It depends often on agents and agencies you have links with. It’s not all equal like it or not.

Not really news, this, but the fact it's been raised again – presumably by Hull – probably means they're shaking down interest in an effort to get things done.

(By the way, I see the manager Hull sacked in May has now got the Sheffield United job. Some very curious things going on in Yorkshire football at the moment.)

And he’s gone.
“This decision is a key part of our wider strategy, which is focused on building a team with the specific attributes required to drive standards and achieve our ambition.

“With the recent arrivals already adding to the group, and with more work still being done, we are moving decisively to build a squad that fully embraces the philosophy we are building here at Bolton Wanderers.
In other words ‘he’s a good player but also a lazy fcker’.

Probably why McAtee is still here then. Can't say he is lazy.
