What a goal by Lahm! Hopefully it'll keep going at this rate.

A first course of Larm was Klosely followed by a double helping of main course. Frings got even worse with a sweet that sour for the Costa Ricans.. Not Wanchop, but two was served in reply after being in the soup, but the sunshine boys ended up paying the bill with no sweet to offer.
Okay, difficult to judge the Teutonic offering against a team that had more holes than a string vest and gave them more space to work with than Captain Kirk ever had. The inclusion of Drummond had some effect in the second half but the game plan throughout was "Give it to Wanchop". Not sure how Costa Rica got into the tournament and we need to see Germany
play again and hope the opposition is better. Bring on the Paraguayans. (paragua actually means "umbrella" in Spanish, so lets hope that has holes in it too)

Si Deus pro nobis, quis contra nos?
Well first shock of the World Cup has arrived. Ecuador have beaten Poland 2-0. Poland hitting the post and bar after going 2-0 down. Magic moment was Ulises De La Cruz making a run from before the half way line into the opposition box around the 85 minute mark, if only he'd've scored there it would've been one of the best WC goals ever.

Game two, Poland v Ecuador, much less of an occasion for joking.
Good game of football between two decent sides. Poland were so very unlucky here; scored a goal, disallowed for offside that wasn't, and had one allowed against them that was. On top of that they twice hit the woodwork late on. Both these sides should make mincemeat of Costa Rica, and Germany won't have quite such a walk in the park as they did today. Well impressed with Ecuador's general game; fast and tricky and a mainly solid defence. This group is still wide open for me.
Noticed quite a few players slipping in both games.

I know me too! Though I always rated him more than the average fan.CrazyHorse wrote:americantrotter wrote:COME ON ENGLAND!![]()
I can do better than that AT...
COME ON ENGLAND!
I'm well excited now. I'm even a fan of Peter Crouch at the moment.
COME ON ENGLAND!

Ah, nuts!
I get nobbled at work to buy the last name in the sweepstake with a strong hint that it's Argentina. It was Costa Rica. And I think I had Poland - Ecuador down as a draw in my brother's sweepstake.
How bad was the defending in the first game? On the basis of that, it's going to be a goalfest for the next four weeks.

Brilliant first game. Germany's fourth will be hard to beat for goal of the tournament, but it shows why keepers don't like the new ball.
I think Ecuador will get through now. I think, with the confidence levels both teams will now have, Poland will get no more than a draw against Germany, and Ecuador should beat C. Rica.
I thought Ecuador would struggle, as their home qualifying record at altitude got them to this stage, but they've shown they can cope lower down.
