I think Mexico should go for an all out attack tonight. I know Angola played well against Portugal, but if Mexico can win by 3+ goals, even if Portugal, as can be expected, beat Iran, Mexico should have a better goal difference. I think they can then draw against Portugal, and go through in top spot, and avoid Argentina in the last 16, and then could progress.
Though that would probably mean a quarter-final clash with England.

the thing is that i think since we play against the Argies so much that a second rd draw with them would not be so bad...as for Angola, i don't care how much we win by as long as we win...then focus on portugal who i think we should beat (even though we seem to not do to well against Euro teams, especially if it goes to penalties).

I think you would admit it is hard to compare the 2nd ranked Czechs to world football powers Iran and Angola.
the score was 2 - 0 ...in the US. believe me, by beating Mexico on your home turf doesn't mean much especially if you have been constantly playing them for years. another example of this would be Mexico's record against Brazil...it is a good record...the only loss in 8 years coming in the Copa America (damn that Adriano!) but it does not mean that Mexico could fare well against other teams. it simply means after playing Brazil enough times, we can defend pretty well against them. the US has speed, but as a team, they are still lacking (and this is not so bad because they aren't the only team). most of their goals play out like this: horrendous tackling, beaten runs, not maintaining possession, horrible passing...play down the wings! here it comes, the center...GOAL! the US can play badly but all it takes is one play and they understand that...and that is the US strong-point. with all that speed and individual talent in the midfield (not to mention a series of fine goalkeepers) they can generally turn a game around based on one play instead of the play of the entire game.

Couldn't let this go without comment ...CHILE : proof that Asia and Africa have too many teams while S AMerica teams with more quality are left out
While I don't care strongly which continents are allowed more teams than others, (as long as Australia is given direct entry every 4 years
), I wouldn't say South America deserve more teams at the expense of Asia or Africa.4 teams from SA qualified (should have been 5 if Uruquay had of played better in Montevideo against Australia). The top 2 (Brazil + Argentina) are the standouts, but Paraquay have been very average and Ecuador despite going through and playing well against Poland, were pumelled by Germany. Everyone expecting Poland to beat Ecuador too.
So, the 3rd and 4th SA teams haven't done much, and everyone's surprised Ecuador (3rd best team in SA) qualified ahead of Poland (what ? 20th best team in Europe). These 2 teams out-qualified Chile, Colombia, Peru and Uruquay.
So, do the SAmericans really deserve an extra place. They've pretty much got that extra place in the future, since the 5th placed team will now have to play an Australian-less Oceania qualifier (NZealand or god forbid Fiji ?!). But, is it warranted ?
If it is warranted, surely it must be at the expense of Concacaf - Mexico (pretty uninspiring against Iran, poor against Angola, and beaten by Portugal who rested 5 players), USA (rubbish against Czech, and lucky against Italy), Costa Rica (conceeded 9 goals - enough said), T& T (always outclassed, but not without passion).
Compare it to Asia with their 4 (Japan, S Korea, Iran, Saudi Arabia). Japan and S Korea - no worries. Iran haven't been great, but they've qualified 3 times in a row, better than Costa Rica and T & T. And Saudi Arabia, who always seem to qualify easily and improve every 4 years.
And Africa, Tunisia are a decent side, and Ivory Coast impressive despite losing. Togo and Angola - not the best teams, but they've outqualified Cameroon, Nigeria, Morocco and South Africa. They deserve to be there IMO.
Actually, writing all this I've developed a point of view - give 3 spots to Concacaf, and direct entry to Oceania - sorted. Asia, Africa and SAmerica don't deserve any more

i agree CONCACAF have played uninspiring football and deservedly only deserve 3 spots....but historically S America has had teams left out that deservedly should have been there. I did watch the CONMEBOL qualifying matches and there were teams with heart that maybe the talent wasn't there or developed yet but surely would have given us some interesting matches. i've always thought CONCACAF and CONMEBOL should combine, i think it would benefit US "soccer" and maybe give Mexico the respect (barring yesterday's performance) a little more respect. Mexico plays in S american tournaments (Copa AMerica) as well as its clubs (Copa Libertadores) and fares well. actually if it were up to me the WC would only be a 16 team tournament.
