Sky reported the unsubstatiated rumours that were coming from Sunderland (the place) this morning. It could be just silly rumour or something more cynical but Quinn has been on since and said it's rubbish and that, given he's conducted himself in line with Stock Exchange regulations, he's very disappointed they happened and given any credence.

I always thought you'd be back sooner or later! Welcome.Hoolio wrote:He wants it done tonight, but even if he does manage to get the contract signed, he has to wait until the SM opens tomorrow to declare it.
Either that, or we're in for another 12 weeks of nothingness...

Anyway...what about these disco pants?

Why is that silly?LeeRoyBrown wrote:Invest £80 million in Sunderland???? Don't be silly.
One of the backers has a business portfolio of some £15 Billion, several others are worth £100 Million +....not as infeasible as it sounds. Or am I being silly because it might just happen to an unfashionable club and maybe make a strong following of Sunderland fans happy? Or is it silly because it's not happening to Bolton (I know you don't need to be taken over, being a well-run club etc). What a stupid idiotic comment, especially since you don't know the ins-and-outs.
Don't get me wrong, I am chuffed that someone wants to find Sunderland's true potential - even if that is only a UEFA Cup hopeful year after year, but I don't want to become a 'mini-Chelsea' in the process.

are you sure about that?? That makes him either the sultan of brunei, Lakshmi Mittal, ambramovich or a founder of Microsoft.Hoolio wrote:Why is that silly?LeeRoyBrown wrote:Invest £80 million in Sunderland???? Don't be silly.

I believe you're getting carried away with this. I apologise if i'm wrong, but it just doesn't add up. Personally i'm happy with the way our club is run (BWFC).Hoolio wrote:Why is that silly?LeeRoyBrown wrote:Invest £80 million in Sunderland???? Don't be silly.

There are better premisership clubs to invest such a figure in, other than Championship bound Sunderland. The Stadium of Light doesn't get filled. The team is a poor one which could take some time to rebuild. I honestly don't see where these investers would be making their money back.
Maybe someone is taking over at Sunderland, just 80 million is a bit exaggerated.

But it's not just anyone taking over, its someone who knows the club inside out, and loves the club. It's one Niall Quinn, a Sunderland legend.LeeRoyBrown wrote:I believe you're getting carried away with this. I apologise if i'm wrong, but it just doesn't add up. The only qualm I have with this, is that it could severly tarnish the reputation of N. Quinn.

I didn't say personal wealth, I said business Portfolio. As in, if he sells all his hotels, race horses, land, property and small businesses he will be worth 15 Billion. His personal wealth, as of the end of 2005 was a mere £454 Million. Quite a difference Old Commie.communistworkethic wrote:are you sure about that?? But, as I said. I don't want to become a mini-Chelsea.

You are going to have to explain the difference between a business portfolio and personal wealth, hoolio. Bill Gates, the richest man on the planet according to Forbes, has a net worth is currently $28 billion or pretty close to GBP 15 billion. This is his business portfolio beciase he doesn't keep it in a sock in his bed. I cannot believe any potential Sunderland has a business portfolio of GBP 15 billion, unless his name is Gates.Hoolio wrote:I didn't say personal wealth, I said business Portfolio. Maybe it's Bill's brother, Eric - another Sunderland legend.Montreal Wanderer wrote: You are going to have to explain the difference between a business portfolio and personal wealth, hoolio. Is Sunderland near Gateshead? Never mind.Little Green Man wrote:Maybe it's Bill's brother, Eric - another Sunderland legend.Montreal Wanderer wrote: You are going to have to explain the difference between a business portfolio and personal wealth, hoolio. Your guess is as good as mine on that Brucey. Part of me wants him to stay, but part of me knows he doesn't deserve to be playing in the CCC. But I also don't want him to end up at Boro, Fulham or Charlton. A team that'll be up there, competing for Europe will do me, if Arca does leave. Mind, if he decides his heart is in Sundyland and he doesn't want to leave...well....
Few facts/figures for you:
The Sunderland AFC Board sold the Drumaville Consortium the total % that was held by the board. A figure rumoured to be around 81% for the price of 117p. A far cry from the 890p the shares were worth when the club listed on the Stock Market in 1999.
Sean Mulryne was rumoured to be interested, but pulled out for reasons unbeknown to anyone. Mr Mulryne was one of the wealthiest backers.
Not all the consortium members were Irish. John Hays, founder of Hays Travel, from Seaham (just outside Sunderland) is a member. Possibly to keep a sense of realism within the group?
Sunderlands debts WON'T be wiped.
And finally, and most importantly, the big man himself said: "None of the members are in this for a quick buck. It may take time, but I will leave no stone unturned to bring the good times back to Sunderland". The last bit was paraphrased.
I know this will be on minimal interest to fans of Bolton, but well, it's made my day...
