10 Swedes v 12 Germans.
The Swedes are getting roasted alive in the first sudden-death encounter. The situation isn't helped by a ref who's given them nothing-except 2 yellow cards, one deserved and one farcial = ten men- and Sweden nothing. That said, the German's are up for it, they want it and are fighting for every ball. Not only that but they are using it well. Two goals up in 14 minutes, one great opportunist goal, one cracking shot. Three fantastic saves by the Swede keeper or it was 5-0. Sweden are looking a different side than played against us. The Germans are looking the part. Looking bad for Sweden.

Soooooooooooo right, what a bad decision by the Ref. Foul yes but the yellow card was as you say farcical. The Ref wasn't going to give one but seemed to be pressurised into it by requests from German players. Not very sporting on their part, but Germany were awesome at times. I'm glad that we can only get them in the Final, a repeat of 1966 now that would be worth watching. A pity that its only a dream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!TANGODANCER wrote:The situation isn't helped by a ref who's given them nothing-except 2 yellow cards, one deserved and one farcial.
Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

Even with the Swedish sending off Germany would have gone on to win the game. With 11 v 11 I reckon they would have scored at least one more, against the 10 they slowed the pace down and saved energy for the next round.
A lot of people seem to be underestimating them, I'm getting more convinced that the eventual winner of the tournament will be the winner of the Argentina v Germany match. Its too close to call for me.

I take it then, the Mexico team have pulled out due to being to overwelmed by their opponants?Dr.Karl wrote:Even with the Swedish sending off Germany would have gone on to win the game. YOU CLIMB OBSTACLES LIKE OLD PEOPLE FXCK!!!!!!!!!!!
The ref seemed reasonable to me it was the German's fantastic start which killed off Sweden's chances not the ref. Just goes to show how poor we are in comparison. How arrogant England is as a nation it almost makes me embarrassed to be English, all the pundits stating how we haven't hit top gear yet. What complete and utter rubbish, we are a poor team with a very poor coach who look as though we have never played together, probably because we haven't thanks to Eriksons team selections in Friendlies and warm up games.
I would say I can't wait until Sven is gone but looking at who we have to take over I predict a few years in the duldrums for England.

For once, I completely agree with you.

I am presuming here but you have to say Argentina look strong, I think they're pretty much certain to win.Soldier_Of_The_White_Army wrote:I take it then, the Mexico team have pulled out due to being to overwelmed by their opponants?Dr.Karl wrote:Even with the Swedish sending off Germany would have gone on to win the game. Sweden aren't a bad team. They have a solid core, they just don't have much depth. Isaksson, Mellberg, Kallstrom, Allback, Elmander, these are quality players. Ljungberg and Larsson are outstanding on their day, and Ibrahimovic is world class. But like most smaller countries (8 million I think) their problem is depth, so injuries tend to hurt them worse than others and when things aren't going their way there isn't a whole lot they can do to change it up.
Poor Larsson. I love the guy, you hate to see that be the last thing people remember from him in a Sweden shirt. Any chance we can scupper his move to Helsingsborg?

I'm going to have to disagree with you there HP - I've always thought him vastly overrated and enjoyed Martin O'Neil's little rant to that effect on the BBC's coverage of the game.H. Pedersen wrote: and Ibrahimovic is world class.

I disagree.
I have seen enough of him in Serie A to recognise he is very talented. He might not always put in the work, but you cannot disregard his goals.
