commie, just stay off threads about things American. Your responses are predictable. Some how or other America is shite to you.

There are postions that require a good degree of intelligence. Quarterback and Cornerback for example. I will not argue over which is better, as I watch the NFL and could care less about Rugby. I find it as boring as most of you find the NFL. To each his own.

I'll comment on what threads i like thanks very much, First Amendment rights and all that.

Have I slagged America? Are you suggesting that that doesn't happen in US high schools and colleges? I've asked for someone to justify their comments. I don't give a rats ass if cornershops and quarterpounders need to be less thick than the rest. So a fly-half or scrum half or fullback in rugby doesn't need to apply his grey-matter? They're were naive and uninformed comments and got the sort of response they deserved.

Yes you have rights, but it is entirely boring to read of your disdain for all things american. It's a broken record.

Of course it happens, I never said it didnt. What it comes down to is enjoyment, and I prefer the NFL to Rugby. You prefer Rugby, and can see the finer points of the game. Great, I'll make sure not to get on a Rugby thread because I just dont care about it.

I haven't expressed a preference either way, you have assumed.

You really are a bit of a............never mind

So how are football players more intellegent?

Well they have to learn a playbook that is 100's of pages long with a differnt play on EVERY PAGE

AT explain to Commie the robot that is Payton Manning.....then well see of a rugby player could do that

And rugby doesn't have plays that players need to learn???

Helps if you know both sports.

I'm not saying one is better than the other or than one is more intelligent than the other, just pointing out very flawed arguments.

Commie, that was typical of you.

LC you'll never convince him. Just wait for him to antagonize someone else on the forums. Then we can resume our discussion in the General Banter section re: American Football again instead of with the America hater. I mean I only started the thread to talk with those of you who do like it. Funny that, to start a thread about like interests.

 They used to do it that way. Play both ways ( :? ) and rotate positions. Then someone figured out you could win by specializing. There are a few players who do more than one thing. It isnt the norm anymore unfortunately.

I love the NFL, but it is a stupid name. Football. They evolved the game from Rugby Football. At least the game resembles Rugby, it has nothing to do with feet meeting ball.

Antagonise someone else? Sorry but somoeone made ill-informed statements that they failed to support. Clearly you are all defensive as you too lack the ability to back up those statements. Convince me? You'll need some actual evidence to do that! Clearly neither of you know anything about rugby so trying to argue against it is a bit silly.

This is still about "football". LC said "They are much more intellegent than most rugby players, how many 6 foot 3 263 pounds guys do you know that can rin 40 yards in 4.38 seconds?" Which is just nonsense that he can't support. I've countered it with information about Rugby Union players.

And as you are selective in your reading or thinking I'll repeat it - I've not suggested either sport or set of athletes is superior.

Here you go then as you are all sensitive about "football". Why is it called "football" when it's about the least likely part of the body to come in contact with the ball?

I would have thought if Rugby players were suited and equipped to play in the NFL they'd be there..
They've goy Aussie rules boys and Polynesian croc wrestlers.. So if Rugby had someone who could break for 1000 yards a season the NFL would not be slow to wave $20 mill under his nose.. Clearly the joy of slooging around in the mud cuddling some other fat public school boys would be difficult to leave but I think a couple would make the switch.. as long as they had a 'setting fire to my farts is Ok entertainment clause on the contract
Fact is very few are able to make a fist of it and those that have enjoyed any success as such are speciality players, punters and place kickers..
Jonah Lomuh was scouted and whilst he possessed the physicality he wasn't actually up too much when faced with 6 guys in front of him who were similarly equipped and raised on raw steak.. So yeah he's big and quick but unfortunately defensive lines are not generally populated with too many Underwoods to stamp on..

It's Like any game once you actually know something about it you grow to appreciate the complexity..
Or you can take the Baseball... that's rounders with Hotdogs.. approach ... and look like a bit of a tit..

I have to respectfully disagree here, commie. The incidence of headers in American football is rare, while some people kick the ball some of the time.

Nice one Norm. I think it's just growing up with the game that matters the most. Instincts. There are a lot of massive guys here that dont make it either, and definitely there are NFL players who couldnt make it in Rugby.

Rugby is a very popular club sport, and has a heavy drinking culture attached to it. I believe the US team is pants though.

The season starts next week. I am getting excited. That's the thing about the NFL it's only on for about 5 months. So if your team starts 0-4 you have a whole year to wait before you can be relevant.

I only have a short time before Little Campo continuosly bombards me with stats and what ifs....
I've only just got over the draft....
Me.. I know plenty about the Cowboys and the NFC East but LC is the full gold plated anorak

I will retain one eye on the Summer game though as 'The Kings of the Fall' seem to be peaking nicely as the Sox Slump continues...

One question... Monday Night Football.... Joe Thiesmann.. wass that about...?
