Its politically incorrect to be called a Pommies Bastard in Australia anymore (racist comment I'm told which carries legal penalties for its use), but I actually don't mind being called just a Pom it's a term of endearment I guess! Also, as many so called Aussies also claim dual nationality so that they can carry an Aussie and a British passport, its a bit two faced for them to call us PBs I guess. But just wait until the Ashes start then for a few months they can call us whatever they want and get away with it, its all fair play in sport over here.enfieldwhite wrote:Is that art imitating life, or life imitating art.FaninOz wrote:I'm happy to play a convict!
By the way, are you a pom, or a pommie bastard?
On the convict front many Australians are now trying to find an English convict in their ancestors so that they can claim to be a "true Australian" not just an imigrant! How times change.

Whole thing is a load of bollux. Sledging between us and the Roos is a national pastime. Neither side takes offence, except the do-gooders in the new "civil rights, plitically correct" mode we now live in. We'll be sending each other love-letters next. Read this week that the famous Aussie "bloke" culture is dying away in favour of a newer more polite Aussie male. I'd rather have the old version. Get on with it you swagmen.

Well, er indirectly that could be put back at our own door Commie, as could Crusades, Empiring and slave trading etc. Bit different from a bit of harmless sledging over sport don't you think?.communistworkethic wrote:I dare say the Aboriginals who suffered a holocaust-like persecution may wish for more progressive times, TD.

Very true, but that's a big issue here with very strong views on both sides. Would need a thread of its own if we wanted to fully discuss the Aboriginal Issues in detail. And a seperate one for each of Crusades, Empiring, Slaves, Jews, Muslims, etc, etc, we should always remember that The Human Race is not a very nice in the way that it has historically and currently dealt with anyone whom a particular group of other humans has considered to be heathen or backward or different in any way.communistworkethic wrote:difference being the aboriginal peoples are still treated as second rate citizens and suffer sever social problems.TANGODANCER wrote:Well, er indirectly that could be put back at our own door Commie, as could Crusades, Empiring and slave trading etc. Bit different from a bit of harmless sledging over sport don't you think?.communistworkethic wrote:I dare say the Aboriginals who suffered a holocaust-like persecution may wish for more progressive times, TD.

Left UK in 1994, but only retired to Oz in 2003. Spent time working in HK and Dubai between those dates. Still consider myself as British so get a bit of a ribbing from Aussies during any sporting event that we are both involved in, mainly because they do better than we do in most sports. Don't mind it as its all good fun and I give as good as I get.Montreal Wanderer wrote: So how long ago did you leave Pommiebastardland, Bruce?
