What are your opinions of Clint Dempsey? Sounds an intriguing character, and possibly headed Englandwards...

Don't get AmericanTrotter started on Dempsey! Although I agree with him, he would be a fantastic signing, dirt cheap in the process. I think I'm correct in saying he is on $40000 a year. There are plenty of "unknown talent" type of signings in the MLS, I'm surprised that Sam hasn't tapped into that market because potenially the rewards are great for low risks. A player like Guevara at New York for example, could hack it in Europe.

I think this would require AT's considered opinion since he plays for New England. I never watch US soccer I'm afraid.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:What are your opinions of Clint Dempsey? Sounds an intriguing character, and possibly headed Englandwards...

LOL Yes, I quite like Dempsey and think he's certainly worth a gamble. The wages will be cheap compared to most. However, I am not sure if he will fit our needs. He is a good talent, but he is more like Nolan than the creative midfielder we are short of.
I would love to see him in a Bolton shirt though.

I asked this question a few weeks ago (I thought he might be a good buy...) but many list members remained sceptical (largely, and simply, it seems, because he is American..)Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:What are your opinions of Clint Dempsey? But fella, the best that you seem to be able to offer up in support of your argument is Brian McBride, a decidedly average player at best. We've had years of the likes of Coby Jones and Roy Wegerle, so what you need to understand is that whilst it's obvious that the whole thing is heading in the right direction, American hyperbole is not about to win out at any point soon.americantrotter wrote:There will need to be an American superstar before the majority of English fans accept thier talent level.
