I'm going to play at a proper Stadium
Not a very good one mind, but still. School team got to the Town cup final so we get to play the final at Brighton's Withdean Stadium. Should be a good experience.

Best I ever managed was the wonderful Stainton Park.

Rugby - remember Des Drummund?Bruce Rioja wrote:Rugby or football, Sluffy?
Well I had schoolboy trials at Leigh and went down with his brother Alva - Leigh signed him up. Alva used to take his younger brother Des to training - Des was 'spotted' and the rest is history.
I was quite good at Rugby but never really took to the game - and look where I have ended up - Sluff!!!
It's enough to make a grown man cry!

I played (And won 4-1) in the Bolton schools cup final (1985) at Burden Park. We had a big crowd that night. Everyone who was supposed to be in detention was forced to go to the game. There were hundreds there.
My mum took some pictures with a crappy old point and click camera. We still have discussions which dot is me so I can't post any pictures to prove it. I can recreate it though.

I think being the right full back I am the one on the far right.

Not as a player, you understand, but as a detainee

Played on the beach-like pitch of Hilton Park with my independent junior team against a Leigh RMI team as part of a Family Fun day.
Of course the crowd of around 400 were in support of the RMI side against this mystery team, not knowing that we had a team with probably had more Leythers in it who were probably the best junior side in the town.
We ran out 3-1 winners and got a free hotdog each or something - good times.
After that RMI and Atherton LR signed up quite a few of our players to play on the Sunday (we were a Saturday team). Not me though alas, who had to settle with a few Inter-league appearences before eventually being replaced. :|
