a question to our military types...

what the feck are these lot doing stood on TV saying this that and the other???? What happend to "name, rank and number"? We've got half of the bloody detainees thinking there on a bloody reality gameshow like performing monkeys? These lot have cracked quicker that battery hen's egg or a z-list celebrity in the Big Brother house. When they were captured all the "experts" were like -"oh yes they'll have had training in dealing with interrogation by special forces". Feck me this lot would have crumbled with Monty Python's Spanish Inqisition - "Iqbal, bring the pointy cushion!!!!".

I think I read somewhere none had received that training, not being special ops types. My guess, and it is purely that, is that they were told that England had actually acknowledged that they were in Iranian waters. If they anything like me as a soldier, not being an officer, I had no idea where I was most of the time. I suppose the truth will emerge eventually. I guess name rank and serial number apply during a war, not an "international incident' where no state of war exists.

Yes, that was a bit surprising although over here on TV you could see the Captain pointing at a map but couldn't hear what he said.

That's all very well when everyone plays by the geneva convention, but when your dealing with headcases that stone woman to death for having sex outside marrage, and execute people by very slowly sawing their heads off while they are tide up, you can be forgiven for playing along.

Besides, Officers are given secret words and phrases that give British intelligence a very different message!

In the first Iraq war we were all told that if we were captured and forced to dictate what they told us on TV, to glance at the small union Jack on your left shoulder. This would indicate it was all bullshit and that you were still loyal to the crown etc.

Sorry sotwa but that's just BS - this is about propaganda and having a british officer stood there saying " we're dead sorry that we encroached your waters" is not helping the cause one litte bit.

As for Islamic law, that's irrelvant. These guys are sat there, clean uniforms, tucking in to dinner and saying to camera "they're treating us well, for that we thank them".

Fecking hell, just as well our grandfathers were made of sterner stuff or we'd all be having sausages for tea and wearing leather shorts.

It was actually only four days - and the Government said at the time - British officials have said that the men may have mistakenly strayed over the maritime border.

I'm guessing you are thinking about the US hostages back in 1979 / 1981?
