And what's the current description of binge drinking? Four or more units in a day, ie two pints of 3.5% lager? Jings.

Its bollox.
We, as a nation have always been piss tanks; we're famous throughout the world for it.
Now, because they've given our excessive consumption a name "binge drinking", it's suddenly a new and dangerous phenomenon.

We know we drink too much. We know it isn't good for us. We don't care. I'm off to the pub.

Someone ought to put a warning on New Labour.

WARNING: Voting for this party will result in; having your pockets picked, being treated like a moron, the break up of the UK, pissing about with the constitution, illegal wars, being lied to in the most obvious manner, government ministers obtaining cowboy hats, dodgy loans for government ministers, corruption and fraud on a massive scale, being able to bribe the prime minister so that you can wear garters, a wig and an evening gown in public without fear of arrest and a draconian code of laws designed to keep the proles under control.
Here I stand foot in hand...talkin to my wall....I'm not quite right at all...am I?

Good god, I am SO bloody hungover this morning and this thread seems appropriate. Frankly it'll make no difference. A 12 foot tall neon sign saying 'alcohol kills you' wouldn't stop me, so why would a label?

I've often wondered why smoking, drug taking is considered anti-social and frowned upon but alcohol isn't. There is a serious problem with alcohol in the UK, particularly with young people. Drink driving is on the increase, young women are out drinking men and one in four are binge drinking. I certainly think having warning labels is common sense. Whether it will do any good, well wait and see but it won't do any harm.

Usual nanny state bullshite

As if it will make a difference.

Can someone still tell me why you can legally buy ciggies in public but not smoke them and surely alchohol does as much damage as smoking/some drugs etc.

No wonder when the daughter leaves the nest I am emigrating :)

And can this government remove the word Labour from their name as they don't resemble any labour party I would vote for

drinking next to someone doesn't get them pissed or give them scirosis of the liver. Smokeing next to them can give them cancer, brochitis, emphasaema and or coronary heart disease.

If you want to smoke that's fine, you can do it outside or at home or in the car.

I agree totally but in a pub etc let them chose and have no smoking ones and smoking ones etc. No ones had a fight or glassed someone cos they have had one too many Rothmans (as far as i know)

I'm for the ban on smoking in eating places though.

Sometimes, but when I do, I like to take on board my weekly intake allowance over a course one sitting! :?
