IMPORTANT NOTICE - PLEASE READ.
While not wanting to create a nanny site in any way, there have been concerns about some of the images that have been appearing on the forum as of late.
The concerns are not based around lack of taste, but the effect it is having on members visiting the site while at work. I am of course talking about pictures of half naked woman, which while being pleasant to the eye in most cases, may not be to the boss.
I'm sure you remember us having this problem not so long ago, which resulted in Keveh putting in the Avatar/sig on/off button. The problem here is that when the picture is posted on a thread, there is nothing we can do for certain members not wanting it to pop up on their work PC.
We are not saying these pictures, or any pictures short of naked woman or (in the ladies case) men, or porn pictures should not grace the boards of T-W, but that you respectfully do so with the correct warning, with a link attached, or in a clearly titled thread as Commie has done.
We ask this so that members can feel free to visit the site during working hours without the fear of someone behind them shouting "WAAAHEEEYYY!!!! Pete's looking at porn!!"
We also ask that you take into consideration that members visit the site while there wives and children are in the same room, which could result in a very uncomfortable situation.
So to summarise, we ask that:
1. If the pic you wish to post is not on a clearly titled thread 'Semi naked woman' etc, that you post a link rather then a picture with the sign attached.
2. If you are posting in a clearly titled and relative thread, that you take into consideration that naked pictures and porn will not be allowed, and will be removed immediately, followed by disaplinary action being taken.
As far as showing pictures of injuries is concerned, we simply asked that you use your own discretion in the matter, and that you take into consideration that members visit the site at home, with their families present. A good idea would be to first post a warning about what the image contains, followed by scrolling down that post a good page length before posting the picture.
Thanks for your understanding in this matter.

Fair enough. I agree about the need for warnings regarding graphic material and we should make that clear in the 'rules' (not that I know where those are posted).
Avatars, we can't control by warnings - they are either on or off. I didn't like to switch them off for a few reasons (it helps to find posts when scrolling, I enjoy them as a rule, I associate them with posters, etc. etc.). However, I will do so. I suppose it was only a bit of a problem with commie because he is such a frequent poster. With over 10,000 posts that meant a potential of over 20,000 boobs jumping at you - more than enough for someone of my age.

The announcement has been done as a collective decision due to feedback and a number of complaints we have received from members.communistworkethic wrote:What happened to being able to switch avatars off?
Bunch of miserable feck shouldn't be on the site at work to start with, as someone pointed out. Or go work somewhere with decent net filters on, i can't see my own avatar at work. soft arses.
The work thing is only one problem. The main problem starts when members are viewing from home. We don't vision T-W members being sad old men sat alone in a dark room with their pants around their ankles. Members surf this site with families around them (or at least they should be able to!)
The problem is when these pictures pop up in other threads those members would deem 'Tit free' due to the subject matter. Threads like 'Your favourite woman tennis player' and 'semi naked woman' are easy for the members to avoid because of the titles.
We don't want to be prudish; all we ask is that other members are taken into consideration. If for some insane reason you have to post a semi naked picture of a woman in a thread about cars for example. Post the link briefly explaining its content.
Not a great deal to ask surely?

My view too. I'm no prude, but, in general I like seeing people's avatars; but at home it's a bit embarrasing when the wife, daughter or grandkids (who often stay overnight and are always around in the evening) come to see what you're doing.Montreal Wanderer wrote:Fair enough. I hate explaining it's nothing to do with me and getting funny looks while doing so.

cand I just point out that it was "tit free" and if some of you have a problem with a woman in a bikini then you really have other issues you need to sort out. In fact there was more nudity in the previous one, one in fact you request I never change.Soldier_Of_The_White_Army wrote:The announcement has been done as a collective decision due to feedback and a number of complaints we have received from members.communistworkethic wrote:What happened to being able to switch avatars off?

The announcement and reply have been about the forum threads, not your avatar.communistworkethic wrote:cand I just point out that it was "tit free" and if some of you have a problem with a woman in a bikini then you really have other issues you need to sort out. Well for what it is worth, this is my view -
I am divorced from my ex and have my eleven year daughter to stay with me frequently. She also is allowed to bring her friends to stay at the weekend too.
The reason why I am explaining this - is that when my daughter is visiting / sleeping over - that I simply do not visit tw whilst she is in the room because of avatar's and threads with semi-naked women on them. The last thing I need is to explain to her why naked women are on a football forum - and for her to tell the ex - "do you know what dad was looking at on the internet???"
The point I am making is that the semi-naked women avatar's and threads can - in my instance for example - not be 'Home Safe' either!
I can easily avoid the problem - and do so - by simply not viewing tw when my daughter is around - but surely this is not what the site is about?

Maybe one day if you ever have kids yourself you will understand what I'm saying.communistworkethic wrote:Do you have to explain you're not watching porn when there's a women in a bikini on the TV in say Holiday 2007? Or Desperate Housewives ??
If you feel the urge to post pictures of semi-naked women - then why do it on a family football forum - there are plenty more appropriate places surely?

you've still not explained the difference.
What's stopping you showing them what you're reading? It's hardly like there's porn on here. If it's my avatar that has so upset you then you can show it in context, I believe that's referred to as "explaining". Apparently some parents are quite big on it with their kids.

Not really compatible circumstances Commie. It's really the difference in views between a single bloke, who can do as he likes, being in the same situation as a married man with kids who has to think a bit differently and consider them and the embarassment it can cause. Sex predominates in far too many areas where kids can be subjected to it and influenced by it.communistworkethic wrote:Do you have to explain you're not watching porn when there's a women in a bikini on the TV in say Holiday 2007? You can hardly tell kids these days something is wrong for them when they think they see you doing just the opposite.
