Played today at Aldersley Green near Chester, and that was absolutely fine. Sunny day too. The tennis elbow is playing up a bit, but it probably helped me on the way to a decent score to be honest, as I wasn't really lashing at it.

I'll be honest Fatshaft, I don't know if you can, purely as we've just the two tees booked and we've 2 full fourballs, whether or not they'd let us change that now is totally outside my control. Had you said last week, before I booked, it just wouldn't have been an issue, but it's now not my call, I wouldn't want you to make a trip and the club to tell us to feck off.fatshaft wrote:Guys, (as Bruce has just PM'd me about playing this) I have my Club Chjampionship 1st round scheduled tomorrow, but there's a 50/50 chance that it will be off. Is just turning up on the day okay?

Before I get to the result, I'd like to thank all the lads for turning up, though Shaggy, ....er I mean Dr Hotdog, was cutting it very fine!
Inspite of the attrocious morning weather and some slow play ahead of us, we managed to get through 18 holes.
Shot of the day went to my pairs partner, Dr Hotdog, who managed to bury the head of his 8 iron about 6 inches in to the ground and about 8 inches short of his ball, leaving it upright while he followed through his full swing.
Special mention to Bolton Billy who, in between knocking back cans of Stella "purely medicinal", tried to purvey a variety of sandwiches on our group. If a shop opens in town called "Bolton Billy's Butties" don't be shocked.
So the results...........
Nearest the Pin.... Commie
Pairs Comp..
4th Bruce & Ratty 41 pts
3rd Blurred & Tango 44pts
2nd MWCIEC & Bolton Billy
1st and inaugural TW Open Pairs winners .... Commie & Dr Hotdog (Doc, as you had to shoot off early, I have your prizes for whenever I can get them to you.)
The Open result (stableford scoring).....
8th Tango 13
7th Ratbert 19
6th Bruce 22
5th Dr Hotdog 27
4th Bolton Billy 28
2= Blurred 31
Mummywhycantieatcrayons 31
1st Commie 35
Yes a clean sweep by me in the comp I organise and sponsor.
I'm a bit embrassed by it, especially after not playing very well for the first 7 holes and just about keeping myself in contention with decent putting. I have MWCIEC to thank for some neurofen, after which I did play like a new man and posted a score of net 67. The trophies do look quite nice on my fireplace, though.
Again, thanks to the lads for making it worthwhile. Hopefully, you enjoyed yourselves and will be back next year.

Had a fantastic day thanks, fella. Great to meet up with you chaps again, and to meet Billy properly other than for a brief introduction in Marseille. Talking of chaps, El Commie Bandito, You only gave yourself four shots less than me, and I'm rubbish
. Joking aside (although not about me being rubbish) thanks for all you did there Commie, it's appreciated.
That Pecilbiter, he really is the Precious Mckenzie of golf. How can someone sooo small, hit a ball....................

Thanks very much Commie - a gift bag on the tee, prizes afterwards... including a very nice Claret Jug replica no less! Is the appearance fee cheque in the post?
It's just a shame I let Commie take the jug home - I was coping with my two shot (!) allowance quite well when I reached the 8th tee one under par gross, and proceeded to leak two tee shots out of bounds. Bolton Billy, my esteemed partner, tried the constructive criticism approach after the first one ("you absolute wanker!"), and simply gave me a can of Stella after the second one.
After a variety of tops and nobbles on the front nine, Commie somehow saved himself by holing out from some unlikely places for somebody with as many shots to play with as he does. A visit to Dr Crayons, not Hotdog, for some Nurofen on the 7th tee meant that Commie's swing improved greatly and he eventually ran out the worthy winner after I started sliding the putts by.
It was good to meet Tango and Hotdog for the first time, and it was a good laugh to play as Bolton Billy's partner, as he's a top bloke.
Dr Hotdog's embedding of the club upright in the ground was one of the weirdest things I've seen on a golfcourse.
Thanks again Commie, I'm sure you'll relent and give me my shots back next year.

Comments from the ancient one:
Although the weather, some atrocious lies and bogs and the afore mentioned slow play all did their best to screw the day up, it was, nevertheless, another good day out with the lads. Due to the incessant rain over the past few weeks there were areas where even the most ardent mariners would tremble to tread. Without moaning too much I actually lost three balls in what could be loosely classed as "fairway" That said, my general golf was on a par with the weather so, no complaints. I did however give a splendid v-sign to the sirens at the pond hole and took a bit of comfort from that. Personally, due to the heavy consitions, I found it very hard going amongst our younger, fitter members but, after a good meal and a hot bath, I think I might yet live.
On the golf, Blurred, last years winner is actually a decent golfer and played some creditable stuff amongst it all. We had a real deluge at one point and credit goes to everyone for competing. Commie won on merit as the one who plays best on the day is the man. Today it was him and was fully deserved.
Last, but by no means least, big thanks to Commie for organising another good event and providing generous prizes for the competitors. A thoughtful goodie bag for all with
water, chocolate , tee pegs and a drop of reviving spirit were gratefully received pre-match, as was my lift to and from the event.
Well done all.

A special mention also to the cherry pink golf ball Commie changed to for the last few holes, which actually didn't seem all that out of place with his white trousers and matching shirt and hat combo....

I am hoping your tongue was very firmly in your cheek when posting that Commie. Sounds like the title of a Jane Russell film.communistworkethic wrote:they're not white, they're "moonlight sand"!!!

Cambridge always win, so it's ok.communistworkethic wrote:they're not white, they're "moonlight sand"!!!
And you were admiring them, at least I hope it was them and not their contents.
besides, you allowed to dress like a tw*t as long as you win. You should tell that to your Cambridge captain.
The Fräulein loved those berry cords in Germany too...

And, might I add, I think we may have put this "Mummy is a short arse" nonsense convincingly to bed by my standing back-to-back with Commie, and actually looking to have half an inch in hand!

And the only time you had half an inch in hand was when you went for a piss behind that bush.
Dear oh dear.
I was quietly confident going into today's Open Championship and when I nailed the first drive down the middle I thought I was in for a nice day. Wrong. With the 3-wood I drove pretty much perfectly on the front nine, then it all went horridly wrong coming back.
My putting was hit and miss, and my approach play was offensive, and when my driving buggered off on the back nine that was that.
Absolutely gutted to lose either 5 or 6 balls. I'm pretty disgusted with just how deep and long the second cut of 'rough' is around a sodding MUNICIPAL course. The number of lost balls in those thick grasses much be huge, and I bet the club shop is laughing when they give it the annual moe and then sell all the balls they find for 50p.
My ill-fated shot on the 6th was the result of a wet glove and grip. Very poor show.
Pleasure to put names to faces today, Cheers for the beer and the butty Billy. Nice one to Mummy for showing me how it's done and a big thanks to Commie for the goodie bag and general organisation.
I am sorry I couldn't stick around for the presentation and a drink or what not afterwards, I was already approx. 2 hours late for them and they were pretty pissed off.
Can we have a TW Masters at a different venue in August?

When I was growing up my bast mate was called Scott, we were the two tallest kids in school and everyone got our names mixed up. It's been with me for yonks that. I can't seem to shake it
I'd be bang up for another round soon, un-official practice or a fully-organised Championship, either or. Just not at the flippin Regents Park bog.

There are a couple of decent munis by my way if you fancy the trek. (No rough longer than 2 inches either...)
