Police raid football clubs

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

No, all of them come under the Met. City of London police have jurisdiction over the City only.

Reet. So who would that be then? Can't say I know of any clubs within the City itself.

actually that's not true. The City of London police can exercise a warrant wherever they want, there is no "jurisdiction" in the way the US operates, otherwise they'd only be able to deal with crime in the square mile, and this isn't the case. It is only an operational courtesy that operations are coordinated with local forces. City of London police if the force, sorry "service" which is conducting the criminal investigation alongside the FA enquiry. The clubs could be Pompey, Bolton and Newcastle.

Part of me hopes it IS Bolton. Innocent or guilty, it would be nice to have this thing sorted out. Instead of it dragging along behind us like a giant weight. Though I suppose if we aren't a part of the raid, we are seen as innocent and free of further investigation.

Here's more - and City of London has crept back in.

Police raided three football clubs today as part of an investigation into alleged corruption.

Police said the raids were not connected to Lord Stevens' ongoing Quest inquiry into the Premier League and were "totally independent``.

City of London Police would not disclose which clubs were involved, or their league status, but said search warrants were executed between 7.30am and 9am on Monday.

A spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that search warrants were served at three football clubs and the homes of two individuals in connection with corruption in football and its impact on owners and shareholders.

"This investigation is a totally independent inquiry.

"It has not been influenced or informed by the Quest inquiry in any way.

"As this is a live investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.''

Newcastle are one of the clubs according to www.newcastle-online.com. No confirmation of this as of yet.

Newcastle United is believed to be one of the clubs raided but the other clubs involved have yet to be named.

The operation is not connected to Lord Stevens' ongoing Quest inquiry into the Premiership and was "totally independent", police said.

Search warrants were executed on the club premises and two homes between 0730 and 0900 BST.

A police spokesman said: "We can confirm that search warrants were served at three football clubs and the homes of two individuals in connection with corruption in football and its impact on owners and shareholders."

A Northumbria Police spokesman said they were aware that "an operation" had been carried out by their London colleagues at St James' Park, the home of Newcastle United.

So, not connected to the Quest investigation, which may or may not have been sparked by the artless Panorama programme.
